Call to Order:
The Meeting was called to Order at 7:30PM.
Approvals:
January 8, 2008 Minutes
Presentations/Review:
125 Spring Street: Patriot Partners/Shire Lexington Technology Park
The DAC reviewed the site plan and architectural design of the proposed Shire development with
Shade Street residents. Abutters in attendance were:
-Jeanne & Richard Canale, 29 Shade Street
-Michelle Ciccolo, 50 Shade Street
-Patrick Morin, 46 Shade Street
-Judith Healy, 54 Shade Street
Areas of concern and remedies discussed:
1.Discussed eliminating the North Parking Lot (adjacent to Building 400), and relocating the
spaces adjacent to Building 200 or at old “reserve” spaces shown on PSDUP plan.
2.Install timers on parking lot lights.
3.Regulate interior office lighting or install blackout shades (all sides of building)
4.Plant evergreen tree screening on affected abutting lots, with White Pine, Hemlock, etc…
to screen parking.
59 Worthen Road (Grace Chapel), Freestanding Sign
The proposed freestanding sign will replace the existing 8’ tall temporary sign. There was
concern about the overall size of the sign, design elements (stone wall, posts, sign) and internal
illumination. The applicant has since submitted a new design (3-12-08) for the sign that, in large
part, addresses these concerns. There will be no stone wall or internal illumination. If the sign is
to be illuminated, specification cut sheets should be provided for review and approval. The DAC
agrees with the recommendation that the supporting granite posts be 8” square dimension. The
applicant may want to consider increasing the size of the 14” high sign panel slightly so that the
information can be read more clearly. There remains concern over the height of the sign (over 9’-
4” high) and while it rests approximately 12” below the sidewalk/street level, 7’ or 8’ maximum
height would appear more than adequate.
The proposed driveway entrance and exit signs have been simplified in accordance with DAC
recommendations. Assuming the 10’ granite posts are 3’ into grade, the overall sign height
would be 7’ which is considered the maximum recommended height. We recommend the granite
posts for these smaller signs be 6” square, in lieu of the 4”x4” shown.
The Design Advisory Committee recommends this project be approved with the above-mentioned
comments.
Other Business:
Discussed possibility of meeting with Board of Appeals to discuss decision making process as it
pertains to DAC recommendations.
Adjournment:
The meeting was adjourned at approximately 10:30PM.
