Sustainable Lexington Committee
Minutes of Meeting of January 3, 2012
A meeting of the Sustainable Lexington Committee (SLC) was held
Town Hall. A quorum of four was sent.
Members Present: Mark Sandeen, Chair
Rick Abrams, Ken Moraff, Todd Rhodes
Members Absent: None
Other Attendees: George Burnell
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm.
Mr. Sandeen led a discussion of actions that the committee could
have taken) to improve the effectiveness of the Better Buildings
Suggestions included:
The committee should have gotten on the schedules of holiday eve
around town to promote the program.
Collect aggregate data of Town energy use from NSTAR and Nationa
Grid
Consider an approach to contact residents by email à similar to
approach taken by Arlington. The Town of Lexington does not have
email list of residents for that purpose.
Collect testimonials about energy saving activities and publish
Colonial Times, Minuteman, or List Serves
Develop flyers (with support from Travis at Next Step Living (NS
could be left at:
The building permit counter
Town Hall
DPW
Ace Hardware
Library
Paint stores
and placed in the Town tax bill (may not be allowed)
Develop the Furnace/Boiler Upgrade program
Larry Sweet has much of the plumbing business in Lexington and
could help to promote/deliver such a program
Gas Networks may have a similar program for gas boilers
Recommended actions:

Mr. Sandeen will continue to work with NSL and Sagewell to ident
prospects for testimonials that can be published.
Mr. Rhodes will contact utilities to try to acquire aggregate en
consumption data
Mr. Abrams will coordinate with Travis at NSL to develop a flyer
Water Resources and Stormwater
Mr. Moraff is working to contact the Conservation Commission to
stormwater projects
Mr. Rhodes will prepare a list of questions for MWRA regarding w
resources
Mr. Sandeen presented information describing the benefits of sit
generation at the current compost facility.
