Suzie Barry convened the meeting at 7 pm.
Minutes of January 23, 2013 were approved with changes.
The new meeting schedule was reviewed.
Mary Gillespie invited the committee to participate in the Lexington Remembers
program. Lexington Remembers is interested in preserving the Town Celebrations
Committee’s history by talking with members about its formation, mission, connection
th
to the 300 event, etc. Membership is enthusiastic and accepts the invitation. All
th
programs taped this year will become part of the 300 celebration record. Mary will
make arrangements for the interview.
Patriots’ Day 2013
Volunteers. Suzie reminded the committee that we will need a lot of help on parade
day.
Other Lexingtons. Lexingtons nationwide were invited to our celebrations but none yet
have accepted. Any who do come will be given VIP status.
Marching Units. Suzie has asked Jeff Leonard to help find high school bands that might
be available to march.
List of Invitees. The usual list of folks will be invited, including Governor Patrick.
Invitations will be ready next week for mailing.
Permissions. All permissions needed for presenting the parade have been granted.
Media. Linda Dixon and Sandy Podgorski volunteered to coordinate contact with the
media (newspapers, town website, etc.) in order to apprise the community of
upcoming events.
Afternoon Parade
Applications. No additional applications have been received, though a lot are
o
still unanswered.
th
Chief Marshal. A motion was made to accept the suggestion of the 300
o
Committee to select representatives from the different categories typifying
Lexington (education, culture, farms, founding families, etc.) to fill the role. The
th
300 Committee, a subcommittee of the Town Celebrations Committee, will
undertake the project. The motion passed and was accepted.
Hallamore. Sondra Lucente reported that Hallamore cannot accept our
o
counteroffered fee for participation in this year’s parade. After discussion, the
committee decided to pay their asking fee. A motion was made to pay the
asking fee; it passed and was accepted.
Wells Fargo. Sondra will follow up with the group.
o
Sponsorship. There is nothing new to report.
o
Vehicles. Suzie reported for Paul Jenkins that (1) he spoke with Mike Greeley
o
and Mike is willing to negotiate a fee for bringing the Bren carrier and Ferret
armored scout car; (2) Bob Barber will bring the same vehicles as last year, and
possibly a Duck as well; (3) George Debonas will commit soon to including his
tank; and (4) The Arlmont Fuel truck, a Model A and, quite possibly, a 1920’s
motorcycle will be added to the lineup.
Transportation Needs. (1) Six Minutemen will need rides and will supply their
o
own cars. (2) Paul Rose has a race car flatbed truck available which could
accommodate the Reminisants.
Parade Ambassadors. Linda reported that she has a press release prepared
o
that will be published soon in the Colonial Times. An online form will be live next
week. A recruitment letter will be mailed next week to last year’s ambassadors.
Terms and instructions for commitment are available and clearly spelled out.
