th
Recruitment. Suzie will follow up with several members of the 300Committee who
have expressed interest in joining the Town Celebrations Committee. Linda Dixon
extended an invitation to Leo McGonagle to join us as well. If members know of other
possible candidates, Suzie suggested contacting Lynne Pease to request an application.
The subcommittee can expand by ten more members.
Veterans’ Breakfast 2012 Update
Fifty-two veterans and guests have signed up for the breakfast, not including
Minutemen and Police who plan to attend.
We are waiting to hear if the invitee is available to sing the national anthem.
Suzie asked for volunteers to help with preliminary preparation at 3 pm Monday,
October 29, St. Brigid’s hall. Table arranging at the hall will be done late Friday night
after the scheduled event has finished with the facility.
Uniformed Minuteman color guard will carry the town and American flags.
Sondra Lucente and Ryan Lennon are still working on door prizes. We have three
donations so far.
Linda thinks that Rotary Club member Don Martini’s suggestion to assign a table host to
facilitate conversation at each of the tables is a great idea. The subject will be revisited
at next week’s meeting when Rotary Club members David Sears and Don Martini are at
the meeting.
Veterans’ Day 2012 Update
The committee received three contest essays. All entries were from middle school
students. Members discussed possible reasons for the lack of interest in participation.
Leo McGonagle served as an escort to a WWII veteran on the recent Honor Flight to
Washington DC. He will be invited to speak briefly at Cary Hall about his experience.
Suzie recapped parade information -- Start at 10 am, Monday, November 12; 11 am
ceremony indoors at Cary Hall. The parade route is new this year. In case of rain, the
ceremony will still be held at 11 am, Cary Hall, but the parade will be cancelled.
Patriots’ Day 2013 Update
Eight more applications have come in, including another mummers’ group.
We should know by Halloween if the prominent group can participate.
The First Michigan Fife & Drum Corps and Quahogs Fife & Drum will be invited to
participate in the afternoon parade.
Chief marshal discussion will be held over.
Meeting adjourned at 8:10 pm
