Town Celebrations Committee
September 19, 2012

Business
Suzie Barry convened the meeting at 7 pm.
Minutes. Minutes from the following meetings were approved: August 9, 2012, August
23, 2012 (with a minor correction) and September 5, 2012.
Elections. Suzie Barry was nominated and elected to the office of Chairman. Linda
Dixon and Sandy Podgorski were nominated and elected to share the office of
Secretary. Discussion for the office of Vice Chairman was tabled until the next meeting.
It was suggested that the committee discuss recruitment of new members.
A meeting was called for Tuesday, September 25, 2012, Room G-15, Town Office
Building to prepare the Patriots’ Day parade invitations for mailing.
300 Ceremony Update

Suzie recapped upcoming events. The full schedule is posted at www.lexington300.org.
Opening ceremony is set for Saturday, September 22, 2012 at Cary Hall with live offsite
coverage provided by LexMedia.
Veterans’ Breakfast 2012 Update
Suzie Barry will meet with Ryan Lennon to discuss the breakfast.
Ryan advertised the breakfast in the October Senior Center newsletter and prepared a
flyer which Suzie passed around for members’ comments.
Rotary Club members, David Sears and Don Martini, are available to help.
Sondra Lucente offered to solicit various Lexington vendors for donations of gift cards;
Bill Mix will approach Aloft for a donation.
Sandy Podgorski will talk with Dave Tabeling about photographing the event as well as
taking individual pictures of attending veterans.
Mary Gillespie will ask elementary school children again this year to make thank you
cards to give to the veterans. Instead of giving the cards at the closing of the ceremony
on the green, they will be distributed at the breakfast. All elementary schools will be
invited to participate in this project.
Suzie will approach Lee Cummings about helping us find an event speaker.
Mary is working on centerpieces for the breakfast tables.
Veterans’ Day 2012
Essay Contest. Three questions were given to the committee for consideration and all
were approved. They should be made public very soon.
Aidan Evelyn of the Police Department was nominated and accepted as chief marshal.
Mr. Evelyn is an Air Force reservist.
Sam Williams built a new podium and has left over funds from the project. He is
considering contributing the remaining sum to either the Town Celebrations

Committee or the 300 Celebration.
Patriots’ Day 2013 Update
There was discussion about the town’s reviewing stands that are currently stored in
Waltham. Committee members feel that the stands should be brought to Lexington,
refurbished and kept here.
The committee has received no response yet for the parade’s chief marshal.
