Meg discussed the 2011 -2012 School Improvement Plan (SIP). The results will
be presented to the School Committee (SC) on June 5, 2012. A lot was done
this school year.
Some highlights:
Professional Learning Communities (PLC) teams revamped some of the
procedures. The staff was surveyed and the results indicated that there was
growth in the consistent practice of data collection. PLC meetings are held by
grade team levels one time a week for half an hour. The focus this year has
been math and the math specialists attends grade level meetings when possible.
These meetings helped with Mixed Up Math.
School psychologist, Michele reported that her PLC focused on a first and
fourth grader in the PALS program (district wide program to support children with
social and emotional needs). The strategies used to support these children were
tracked and assessed progress being made.
Eight Bridge staff went to a Data Summit last summer and were trained.
These staff members lead their PLC teams.
School Wide writing prompt is given three times a year and staff score the writing
based on a rubric provided.
Peer observations have taken place this year with the support and
encouragement of Meg.
Erin and Meg have started a log that only they have access to. This
tracks children who have come to the office. Generally, there is only one visit but
it will be helpful to see if children have repeat visits.
All School Meetings have focused on the ABCs (Attitude, Behavior,
Character) of Bridge School and teachers have been nominating Bridge Patriots.
Fourteen staff members have already been trained in Responsive
Classroom, four more are taking the class this spring. Erin has trained IA staff in
this program.
BAT and CAT teams are ongoing. The third grade have piloted the BESS
evaluation (social /emotional) for the past two years. It has taken a lot of effort
and time. Meg will talk to the new Director of Guidance to see if the system will
have a protocol in the future.
Lucia Gates has been doing Common Sense curriculum with the 5th
graders. It is about cyber literacy and internet safety.
2012 -2013 SIP
A draft of the SIP was written and there were initiatives started last year that will
continue.
Some staff will go to a Response to Intervention (RTI) summit that will
train staff so they will be able to bring information back to the rest of the staff.
In PI-Cs, in addition to pre and post assessments, there will be a formative
assessment. Through the staff survey there was a request for a
consultant /coach to come and help staff implement this as PLC teams.
Also, from the survey, staff would like to share professional articles. Staff
spotlights at faculty meetings will continue.
Technology: Bridge will get three smart boards. Meg will notify staff at a faculty
meeting.
Some teachers from Bridge and Bowman will use the renovations as a
teaching tool
Renovation: Meg meets daily with the contractors and frequently with the
architects. Bridge has a renovation committee of staff that also meets.
