1. Votes: Minutes of May 16 meeting — Approved, with changes submitted by Stew.
2. Reports:
Committee Chair Workshop (Stew):
• agenda once filed with Town Clerk should not be revised
• additional items raised in course of meeting should be tabled for the next meeting
unless action is required during the interim
• e -mail should be reserved for posting notices, organizing meeting dates, etc., not
discussion. Avoid using Reply All when responding.
Safe Routes to School (Keith):
• suggestion made to send a GCC representative to SRTS to solicit their suggestions
for routes they would like to see developed to help us develop priorities.
ACTION: Peggy to contact SRTS.
Town Wide Summit Council:
the suggestion was made that it might be useful to organize a town
committee /department wide summit council on the subject of pedestrian /bicycle
connection issues at some future point to better coordinate the work of various
existing committees.
Council on Disabilities
• Stew plans on attending their next meeting on behalf of GCC
Lexington 300 Committee (Rick)
• they will establish a program March 2012 — March 2013. They are the coordinating
group for activities related to 300 anniversary. They are open to proposals for
walks or path suggestions related to this. Discussion: other activities related to
demonstrating paths around town. Coordinate with CLC (Jane Warren is handling
publicity for CLC). GCC can potentially provide maps for many purposes related to
this.
Map Work update (Alex/Rick)
• Maps from Emily Schadler — comparison to Lincoln town Map — with marked trails
and markers /signs along trails. Maps — possible funding from historical and tourism
sources. Solicit favorite loops from multiple sources, i.e. Stewards, CLC, NEMBA,
LHS cross country coaches.
ACTION: Rick to draft request for descriptions of routes around town which connect
conservation and other open space areas, and handle distribution, collection and analysis
of inputs.
West Lexington Greenway Master Plan (Keith)
• Karen is actively working with VHB to complete the WLG Master Plan with 25%
design information by the first week in July. GCC will then need to prepare report
for CPC.
Drummer Boy /Grove Street trail connection (Alex)
• Alex has responded to the citizen request explaining the necessary steps and
estimated budget ($1750 +) for constructing the necessary boardwalk structure
required. The citizen does not sound interested at this point in actively pursuing this
issue. Eventual work to complete various phases of the proposed West Lexington
Greenway will incorporate this proposed trail connection.
3. Old Business:
Minuteman Connector site walk discussion. Discussion of the two basic design models, i.e. an
all season hard surface connection similar to the Minuteman Commuter Bikeway (Plan A) vs. a
three season hiking /mountain bike type trail (Plan B). Time did not permit reaching a
conclusion of which model to support. Discussion will be placed first on the agenda of the July
meeting. CPC funding for possible walking trail (Plan B) would need to be submitted this fall
(October/November)
Next Meetings: July 18, no August meeting, resume monthly meetings in September.
Respectfully submitted,
Paul Knight, Secretary
