HomeMy WebLinkAbout2013-01-25-Bridge-minSITE COUNCIL 1/25 ATTENDANCE: Nimisha Asthagiri, Russ Bosback, Angela Chang, Betsy Conway, Erin Maguire, Susan Orenstein, Sean Osburne, Naomi Priver, Deb Sabin, Deidre Schadler Approve minutes Renovations Replaced 2 doors at far end of K wing replaced overhead lights (which were buzzing) this week adjusting the heat -- renovated side temp water was set at to run through pipes not set high enough; turned it up and temperature good did insulation work in ceiling to prevent sprinkler pipes from freezing working on duct work in central space, floor will be taped off for temporary walls to make hallway narrower (for temp wall while working) did not put glass in wall over Dec break will plan on Feb break do have a classroom swing space available if troubles arise custodian /others come in at 5am to check on temp/ past 2 nights did not turn heat down unsure of when tile in bathrooms to be replace; Meg had said over Dec break but not done and Erin unsure so will look into the schedule Multicultural Initiatives use bulletin board near entrance to reflect multicultural backround literature during all- school assembly, ?read in native language play multicultural music when going to assemblies -- let kids know theme in advance having assemblies to have parents /ELL students come in to share maybe dedicate each month to a different country or culture, even within countries are diverse, i.e. India within that month to include foods in cafeteria flags will come back, update them don't know if map will be still in main lobby (will be glass in that area) Deidre is responsible to know if new student moves from a different country, "welcome to someone from..." next steps: find bulletin board to place countries /cultures represented coincide with International Night, 3/15 School Improvement Plan will bring updated plan to upcoming meeting Technology questions about technology being included in SIP 4 teachers wrote LEF grant, have 25 -30 ipads (Baranokfsky, Yee, Michaels, Plamondon) 2nd ipad cart which teachers borrow for classes have 3 more ipads for teachers to borrow /check out transition will be to National Standards in 2014 how it impacts curriculum, teacher inservice math team, math coaches have revamped math curriculum from EveryDay Math in Gr3 -5, optional in Gr2 literacy working to meet new goals of opinion writing, not just narrative Feb 8 next PTA Coffee abt Math curriculum what is new, what is teaching, what to do at home ELL adopted standards to address language of math /science /social studies, have a new test and now awaiting results have a new intervention team to look at data which we are collecting and then target a skill daily with those children; not looking at cohort of students and particular skills
