NOTICE OF DETERMINATION
Notice is hereby given that at a hearing of the Historic Districts Commission held on Thursday,
June 6 2002 the
, , Commission granted a Certificate of Appropriateness to Joel Berman, Chair,
representing the Tourism Committee,with respect to signage in all the historic disiricts.
Participating in the decision were Commissioners Joann Gschwendtner, Ian Adamson,Mark
DiNapoli, Dan Fenn, and Lynn Ho kins.

CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS
This certificate is issued pursuant to Chapter 447,Acts of Massachusetts, 1956,as ame,nded,to
. Joel Berman,Chair,Tourism Committee
with respect to signage in all the Historic Districts.
The approved work is as follows:
Banners: The Commission approved the design of the Liberty Ride Banners as
presented, 30 inches wide by 60 inches.high and printed on both sides. The banners will be
installed on light po}es using eTtisting hardwaz�e only.
T'here are twelve,(12)banners approved in the historic districts. At three(3)l�ons ' .
Library banners will be removed and Liberty Ride banners installed.
The following locations are approved for banners in the historic districts:
i) Mass.Ave. (west side) at Marrett Road intersection
2) Marrett Road(east side)at entrance to National Heritage Museum
3) Mass. Ave. (east side) at driveway to Seasons 4
4) Mass.Ave. (east side)at corner of Percy Road and across from 1Vlunroe
Tavern land
5) Mass.Ave. (east side)on southeast comer of Town driveway belween the
Post Office and Town Office Building
6) Mass:Ave. (east side)on southeast comer of Edison Way
7) Mass. Ave. (west side)in fnont of Battle Green Inn
8) Mass.Ave. (west side)in front of Theatre Pharmacy
9) Mass.Ave.(west side)neaz corner of Muzzey Street(in front of Sovereign Bank)
10) Mass.Ave. (east side)at northeast corner in front of Visitors Center pa#h
Mass.Ave. (east side)at fixture by"Information"azrow signs
12) Mass. Ave. and Worthen Road island(north side)
Banners shall be for the period July 1 through October 2002 only and must be remov�the first
week of November. They are a one-time effort and will not be re-approved in 2003.
Bus Stop Signs: The Commission approved the design of the Bus Stop Signs as
presented. There will be seven(7)metal signs 9 x 13 inches printed on both sides. The signs
will be placed on existing poles wherever possibie. No signs will be placed on the new metal
light fixhues on Depot Square. �

Bus stop signs are for the period July 1 through October 2002. They must be removed the first
week of November.
The work shall conform to the information submitted on June 6,2002 and be completed to the
satisfaction of the Commission.A.fter completion,the work sha11,in the judgement of this
Commission,be maintained in good repair. �

This Certificate shall be void if iY is not acted upon within one year from the date of this '
Certificate,or if the wark described is removed, abandoned,or replaced.

p.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2002, in the Selectmen's Meeting Room of the Town Office Building
on the application of Joel Berman,representing the Tourism Committee,with respect to signage
around the Center District,which is located within the Battle Green District.
