Very truly yours, JRP:bg Enos. TOWN OF LEXINGTON Massachusetts 02173 HISTORIC DISTRICTS COMMISSION NOTICE OF DETERMINATION Notice is hereby given that at an adjourned hearing of the Historic. Districts Commission held on Wednesday, January 30, 1980, continued from; a hearing on Wednesday, January 9, 1980, the Commission unanimously voted to disapprove the application of the Town of Lexington for the installation of a pay telephone on Massachusetts Avenue in Lexington Center, which is within the 3attle Green District. The Town asked that the telephone be installed in front of either, Colpitts Travel Agency of Anderson's Jewelers, near the entrance to Depot Square from Massachusetts Avenue, or if that was unacceptable, between the Leader Federal Savings Bank and the Cary Memorial Library. The model - selected is knows as "King 54.0 Telephone Kiosk ", and descriptive information, including a photographs, was submitted to the Commission. In the opinion of the Commission, the installation of a pay telephone would not only detract from the appearance, but would also add to the con- gestion, of all locations suggested, and would therefore not meet the stan- dard of "appropriateness" set forth in the statute goveTng the Commission's activities. This decision is to be without prejudice to any future request by the Town of Lexington for the installation of pay telephones. Participating in this decision were Commissioners John 3.. Packard, Chairman; Georgia H. Williams, Secretary; John L. Davies; S. Lawrence Whipple; and Associate Commissioner Linda J. McAulay. Date: January 30, 1980 Disapproval.
