Re: Section 93A Rehabilitation
Contract No. 6798
Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA)
Dear Ms. Pease:
Telephone: (617) 242 -6000
Facsimile: (617) 305 -5990
The MWRA is in the design phase for the Section 93A Sewer Rehabilitation Project in the
Town of Lexington. The project will involve rehabilitating the existing sewer line which
runs parallel to the Minuteman Bicycle Path. The objective of the project is to improve the
structural condition of the sewer pipe and limit corrosion to avoid a possible pipeline
collapse.
The existing sewer and manholes will be internally lined to minimize the need for
excavation and surface disruption. All work is within the Massachusetts Bay Transit
Authority (MBTA) right of way.
The Authority proposes to line 4,125 linear feet of 30 -inch diameter main (Section 93A)
and 22 manholes within this length of sewer. The 93A Rehabilitation begins near
Brigham Road and continues south along the Minuteman Bicycle Path to Fletcher Street.
It is anticipated that construction will take place in the fall of 2003 and the duration will be
2 -3 months.
Although the lining method chosen will limit the surface disruption during construction,
trucks and equipment will be on -site during construction. Pumps and by -pass piping will be
required to handle the existing flows during construction. Temporary noise barriers will be
installed.

Enclosed is a locus plan along with draft contract drawings showing the possible set -up
locations for the by -pass pumps and noise control measures. Since the work is primarily
underground in existing MWRA easements, MWRA does not believe that the project will
have an adverse effect on existing historical resources. We will continue to coordinate
with the Town of Lexington through construction. If you need additional information,
please do not hesitate to call me at 617- 305 -5734.
Very truly yours,
Massachusetts Water Resources Authority
