total of $2,400 allowing each family to receive a gift card for $35, for each
child. We still need to collect money from James and Shaun Mclaughlin,
Andrew Wang, and Thomas Wood.
2. Valentine's Day Luncheon We have decided to pass out carnations at a
Senior Living Center this Valentines Day! Some suggestions were
Brookhaven and Youville or Meadow Green Nursing Home_UPDATE: It was
decided that we will visit the Meadow Green Nursing Home located at
45 Woburn St in Waltham. They have about 140 residents. We will be
handing out carnations on Valentine's day after school at around 3:00. People
who said the could volunteer are Sara Lehman, Carolyn Avery, Becca
Denning, Jackie Denning, Jake Douvas, Natalia Pronchick, Elizabeth Coons,
John Lahiff, Eva Goldfinger, Emilia Fusco, Sara Fopiano, Elizabeth Coons,
Abby Grant, Joslyn Battite, and Lee Katz. The people said who could maybe
volunteer were Jack McCullough and Scott Cunningham.
3. The Cotting School Visit This years Cotting School visit will be held in
March. At this event we help special needs kids build life packs. A life pack is
a bag that together we will fill with items like deodorant and soap to donate
to the Waltham Homeless Shelter. The kids really like bonding time with us,
and it's a really fun event to get to know them!
4. The Book Drive The next meeting we will be ready to kick off the Book
Drive for Cotting School! We collect used books for the Cotting School's
students to catalog and sell books on Amazon. This is really important for
them because it teaches them important skills for future jobs that they can
have. We will be advertising the Book Drive in The Shopper, Minute Man, and
The Patch. Remember to bring any of your own used books to the next
meeting to donate!
S. Communication Communication is getting better in the group! However,
Please remember to respond to text messages that your group leaders send
you! If you could text that you got the message and are/ are not going to the
meeting that would be a huge help to group leaders!
6. Float Ideas for the 300th Mr. and Mrs. Kelly will not be able to make it to
the meeting in February. There will be meetings for the float in March and
February open to everyone in the group to work on the float. These dates are:
March 14th, April 7th, and April 11th. So far for the Float we already have the
Belfry, Chickens (and wooden pens), a cider press, some old farming
implements and a real wall. We will still need to collect the following
materials: tissue paper (for the tissue paper flower sign), costumes for
farming men /women or children, more Old farm implements, an old wooden
ladder, rail fence, costumes - Redcoats and Minutemen, tricorn hats, trees,
bushes (any plants), white picket fence, a small picnic table (and red
checkered cloth), picnic basket, and small grill. We will be putting the float
together C &W bus yard on Bedford Street (where we met for the Turkey
Drive.) If you have any of the items above, or know someone who would lend
you something from the list, it would be greatly appreciated if you brought it
over to Mr. and Mrs. Kelley's Barn located at24 Forest St. in Lexington!
The next meeting will be held on February 14th, 2013 at 7:OOPM at Cary Memorial
Building in the Estabrook Room, 1605 Massachusetts Avenue.
Respectfully Submitted,
