Lexington Board of Health Meeting, Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at 7:00 p.m.
Town Office Building, Room G-15, 1625 Massachusetts Avenue, Lexington, MA

Health Department Attendees: Gerard F. Cody, Health Director; Ann Belliveau, Health
Clerk/Office Manager
Wendy Heiger-Bernays called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
At 7:05 p.m. Heiger-Bernays motioned to go into executive session to discuss the leasing
of the town-owned Hartwell Avenue Compost facility site. She declared that holding an
open session on this matter may have a detrimental effect on the Town’s negotiating
position. Further, upon conclusion of the executive session, the Board of Health will
reconvene in open session. Perlmutter seconded and with a roll call of MacKenzie and
Flynn in the affirmative.
At 9:00 p.m., the Board reconvened into open session.

The Board reviewed the minutes of July 11, 2012. Perlmutter motioned to accept the
minutes as written. MacKenzie seconded. All approved.
Community Health Update/Report – The Board reviewed the Community Health Report
for September 2012 prepared by David Neylon, R.N., and follow-ups for the eight (8)
communicable diseases had been done in a timely manner.
Emergency Preparedness – The Board reviewed the Emergency Preparedness Report for
September 2012. Cody advised the Board about the Sheltering Table Top Exercise which
was held on July 13, 2012, dealing with best practices for emergency sheltering. The
exercise was facilitated by the Carpathia Group and participants included Police, Fire,
Housing Authority, local healthcare providers, Human Services Dept., Public Facilities,
Public Schools, Lexington MRC members, nursing homes, local health departments,
daycares, religious groups, and apartment complexes.
Cody also informed the Board that Lexington was fortunate to participate in a grant
program to provide awareness training for First Responders and Public Health involving
the needs of individuals with disabilities during a large scale emergency. As a result of
this training, sheltering plans will be updated to include these specific needs.
Perlmutter motioned to adjourn. MacKenzie seconded. All approved.
