HomeMy WebLinkAboutInven Oakland St 8September 12, 2007 David Kelland, Chairman Historical Commission Dear Mr. Kelland: This letter is in response to a letter sent me received today, September 12, 2007, dated July, 2007. First off, the extension 701 does not work. Message says "not in service" or some such information. I note that my property, 8 Oakland Street is listed on here. I see someone decided it was a Tudor Revival. It was not sold to me as such by the realtor, nor was I informed that this structure was on any special historic lists restricting its use or change in 1990 when I purchased it. I have changed some things since purchasing it in 1990. I think I made it better living quarters. Just this year, I replaced all of the remaining windows that had not yet been upgraded to wooden Marvin windows, double pane, argon gas filled, and Low E Glass, for better energy efficiency. I knew when I purchased the house that Howard E. Custance had built it for his retirement home in 1952. I didn't see it as particularly fancy. It's functional. I bought it more for location than anything else. I highly resent that it was put on this list. It's 55 years old. That's not very historic considering many of the houses in Lexington, and others on this list. On to # 10 Oakland Street: As I look out my window, I can see that it has asbestos shingles. Your writeup says the house has a slate roof. Your writeup also says an unattached garage belongs to 10 Oakland. I believe that garage to belong to # 12 Oakland Street.
