From Meeting on 1218/11
- Members Absent: Marissa, Annie, Scot, James, Lindsay, Joslyn, and Eva.
- Turkey Deliveries: On November 23` many LYC members participated in the Turkey Deliver. On this
day, the volunteers delivered 35 dinners to local families in need. All the groups said that the trips were,
for the most part, successful.
- Holiday Gift Cards: After selling candy, participating in the Holiday Tree Lighting in the Center, and
standing outside Wilson's for the weekend, LYC raised $1,900.00. This would allow LYC to buy 73
$25.00 Toys R Us gift cards. However, thanks to Derek Winton, the Improv Show at the High School
donated all the money they raised on the night of their show to the LYC Holiday fund. There were 125
tickets sold at $3.00 each, for a total of atleast $375. With this extra money, LYC's grand total for
Holiday gift cards came to $2275.00. This amount of money allowed LYC to purchase 73 $30.00 gift
cards. This extra money goes a long way for families when they are Christmas shopping. Thanks to
everyone who helped make the fundraising weekend successful.
- Communication: One important topic that came up during our meeting was the topic of
COMMUNICAITON. Although the Holiday Fundraising events were successful, trying to find people to
help out was quite a challenge. On Friday 12/2, while those who volunteered were out raising money in
the center, our adult advisors, Shannon and Debbie, spent the night scrambling to find people to help out
at Wilson's and Sunoco for the weekend. They had a hard time actually reaching people; they got lots of
voicemails, which is not helpful when a definite answer is needed. Because of the lack of response and
people able to help out over the weekend,.-.we had to cancel our fundraising plans outside Sunoco..
With all this said, LYC needs to take a few steps to IMPROVING our communication. During the
meeting, the following ideas on how to improve our communication were suggested:
1. If you can't help out due to sudden changes in your plans, you need to find someone to
REPLACE you. .
2. Try a get a RESPONSE. Text, email, and/or call the person. If these options do not work, call
their house and talk to the parent or leave a message.
* *Remember: We commit to helping people. We are responsible for doing what we say were are going to
do, and if we fail because of lack of communication, we only embarrass ourselves and bring
disappointment -to the people who were counting on us **
- Christmas Luncheon: The Christmas Luncheon will be held on Tuesday, December 20' 2011 form 11
am- I pm at the Munroe School Senior Center. We need people to help out so we can make the Luncheon
successful and show just how great LYC is!
- If you still have to pay for your LYC sweatshirt or LYC t- shirt, please give the money to Emily, Taylor
or Abby, as soon as possible. Sweatshirts are $35 and checks should be made out to Lexington Youth
Commission. T- Shirts are $13 and checks should be made out to Tricon.
Respectfully submitted,.,
