(Nourish Restaurant) and in the location (second pier) requested by The Commission at the October 2012 hearing. Mr.
Kwass also presented a photograph showing the original proposed location (the first pier) in relation to the existing sign at
1727 Massachusetts Avenue. The applicant requested the Commission reconsider their objection to hanging the sign on
the first pier. Mr. Kwass measured the distance between the existing sign and the first pier at nine (9) feet. This location is
a more direct route to the main entrance of Chyten’s offices. One of the Commissioners, who had an objection at the first
hearing, had an opportunity to go back to the location and agrees that the first pier is a more suitable location. The
Commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness for a blade sign at the first pier of the bay.

2013 and 2027 Massachusetts Avenue:
Luis Perez and Gary Larson, showed drawing of softening element for the
Massachusetts Avenue parking lot, and proposed plan for dealing with additional slope from the Barn at 2013
Massachusetts Avenue. The new foundation of the Barn building had to be raised to meet conservation and building code
requirements. The proposed plan is to build stairs and terrace the area in front of the unused barn door. The Commission
requested that they re-think the idea of making the area so manicured. The Commission feels this area should reflect the
previous use of the barn door to better connect the landscape to the building. The Commission also requested that the
applicant move the softening element for the parking lot in order for it to not block the Barn. The applicants will look at
both of these requests and return for the December 2012 hearing.
Neighbors of the project asked why the barn was allowed to be raised higher without another hearing. The Chairman
Joseph Welch stated that The Commission approved the Barn and Isaac Mulliken House to be raised and placed on a new
foundation. Any new work, even if it is in a historic district, must abide by current state building codes. Another question
AGENDA FOR THURSDAY, November 1, 2012
