Overview of • Three HAWKS taskforce members will attend 10/26 session (Karen Hall, Jen forthcoming 10/26 O'Donnell, Amy Chamberlain) Let's Chat: HAWKS o Proposed handouts: HAWKS promises, examples of HAWKS sightings series slip • Faculty HAWKS handout was provided to HSSC members • Team shared that every Friday, the 5 t " grade announcements include "shout out" or examples of HAWKS Sightings for the week (great reinforcement!) • The concept of HAWKS "look out" spot was shared with HSSC members which focuses on areas in the school outside the classroom (e.g. dismissal, cafeteria, recess) 4. Let's Chat series — • Next date: December 7 Topic TBD general discussion o Will see what topics ideas are returned on slips • Faculty offer: Susan Rosie has offered to chair a Let's Chat session on Early Literacy focused on the concept of "just right books ". HSSC happily accepted the offer and will work with Ms. Rosie on date /time. o Explore date in January, evening session for 1 hour • Request to map out 4 -6 additional dates in 2013 to solidify series schedule and get onto parent's calendar and school's central calendar. 5. Suggestion Box • Discussion regarding how to handle comments received through the Suggestion box was discussed. 0 1 parent has key and will gather suggestions periodically, organize and prepare for following HSSC mtg 0 HSSC team will decide how to triage and respond to comments received on an ad hoc basis. • Agreement on how to get the word out about the Suggestion box: • Article in Herald • List sery blast • Link on school website • Possible designs for the Suggestion box were discussed with design agreed upon to align comments in themes that reflect the 2012/2013 SIP: • Academic e.g. class - related topics, specialists, etc • Pro - Social e.g. recess, pick -up /drop -off, HAWKS, etc • School Culture e.g. communication, collaboration • Other - be specific Harrington Elementary School Site Council — Meeting Minutes 2012 -2013 Academic Year • Can utilize LPS print shop for Suggestion box forms dependent on volume. First printing will handled at Harrington • Need to review and refine the process will be determined following a trial period. 6. Field trips • Due to budgetary constraints, the PTA will no longer be able to support bus. • HSSC were asked to discuss thoughts regarding field trips in general and likely increase in cost per trip: • Comment 1: need to be explicit about link between curriculum + field trip • Comment 2: what parents may be willing to pay is dependent on link to curriculum • Comment 3: explore "in- house" options that will limit use of bus and thus limit higher costs • Comment 4: field trips not only link to curriculum but assist in pro - social skills • Agreement to build Field Trip overview table (e.g. anticipated field trip per grade and link to curriculum) for Harrington school and make available on website Action items Item Responsible Due 1.
