Sidewalk Committee Notes (No quorum present)
July 7, 2008
Attended: Jerry VanHook, Francine Stieglitz, Wayne Brooks, Sue Ellen Briggs, and members of
the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church: Jim DeCoulos and Mark M.
There were not enough members of the sidewalk committee present to accept the June minutes.
Jerry is working on shortening the master list of sidewalks created by the individual school safe
route to school programs.
Members of the Greek Orthodox Church presented their proposal to lower the sidewalk adjacent
to their building on Oakland St. They are working with DPW. They have considered drainage
and water issues as well as heights of curbs and transitions to neighboring sidewalks.
Traffic Mitigation Group (TMG) has four projects it is working on:
Marrett Rd. and Waltham St. $1.1M completed in 2011
Spring St. and Marrett Rd. intersection $500,000
Spring St. sidewalk $860,000
Hayden Ave and Spring St. intersection $140,000
Dave Cannon is working on defining a policy on traffic calming initiatives.
The Sidewalk Committee needs to keep an eye out for these projects to see that pedestrian access
is brought up in the planning stages.
Citizen Comments: Wood St. residents would like to see traffic calming on this street. The
Engineering Department sees this road as arterial.
Hartwell Ave.- The Planning Board recommends sidewalks on both sides and bike lanes the
whole length.
