Grove St. has a great rebuilt sidewalk.
Oakland St. St Nicholas Church got approval to remove a tree. That is all the progress at this point.
Roosevelt Rd. surveyed and there is room for sidewalk. Resident support is needed.
Phillip St. will be started next.
School St. (street and sidewalk) will be resurfaced next year.
Transportation improvement fund (TIF) = federal dollars
Now that the Sheraton Hotel is open, when will stripping of Mass Ave from Wood St. to Marrett Rd. be done?
Will there be a path to the Minuteman National Park?
John Davies spoke of a proposed development at 341 Marrett Rd. 10 units of balanced housing or cluster
development with 6 new townhouses constructed and the existing buildings. There is a path on the property that
connects Marrett Rd. with Wachusett Dr. The developer would like it to be a private path. The planning board
could require a through street or a cul-de-sac with public access. The developer threatens to go for 4 jumbo houses
and tear down historically significant house if access is required.
Motion by Meg and seconded by Suzie: “The Sidewalk Committee recommends that if the Planning Board
approves development at 341 Marrett Rd. that pedestrian access be made available between Wachusett Dr. and
Marrett Rd.” This motion was unanimously approved.
Traffic Mitigation Group (TMG) has four projects it is working on:
Marrett Rd. and Waltham St. $1.1M completed in 2011
Spring St. and Marrett Rd. intersection $500,000
Spring St. sidewalk $860,000
Hayden Ave and Spring St. intersection $140,000
Dave Cannon is working on defining a policy on traffic calming initiatives.
The Sidewalk Committee needs to keep an eye out for these projects to see that pedestrian access is brought up in
the planning stages.
Citizen Comments: Wood St. residents would like to see traffic calming on this street. The Engineering
Department sees this road as arterial.
Hartwell Ave.- The Planning Board recommends sidewalks on both sides and bike lanes the whole length.
Meeting adjourned at 12:45pm
