Connie Rawon wrt E. Lexington Library: Wants to take a holistic
approach to re-vamping the E. Lex. Library. Capital requests in town
package are from the BFAC study. But they'd rather have someone come
in and study the whole building. Will look for $15K in CPA money to
hire a consultant to look at ADA, structure, air quality. By Cary's
will, the building can only be used for 7 or 8 purposes, and if not
used for that purpose, it reverts back to the heirs. They are
currently looking at mold issue. Not sure it's there, but employees
are complaining. May need a placeholder for mold mitigation in FY08
depending on what has found.
Karen Simmons (Recreation)
Center Basketball Court, $85K. Drainage problems and cracks. Last
resurfaced in 1987. Requesting $'s for reconstruction, replacing
backboards, rims, and benches. They have a very good estimate from
recent reconstructions. Tax Levy.
Valley Tennis Courts: $130K. Replace courts and fencing. Last done
1981. Recreation Enterprise Fund. SS asks if they'll do anything
about the acorns [yes].
Boman Fields: $50K. Want to rebuild ("top-dress") the baseball field,
backstop, and open turf. They expect a lifetime of 10 years or more
for the field work, and 20 years for the backstop. They've done
top-dressing on other fields and like the results. They believe that
it will last if it maintained properly.
Much discussion about School Admin's plans to possibly put a new
school on the Boman fields. Sentiment is that a new school at Boman
is at least 5 years away so it is better to fix the fields in the
meantime than to not.
Status of previous projects:
Center Playground inspection is today so should open later this week.
Golf course, core aerator has been ordered and should be in soon.
Center Pool Complex study bid docs are being put together. The study
needs to be done while the pool is open so will not be until the
summer.
Hydrology study at the golf course. Study needs to span three seasons
so they should have the results within a year. The contract has been
awarded.
Ringe playground. The swings went up but there was a recall and they
have had trouble getting the right retrofit for the swings. May refer
it to town counsel in a few weeks.
Tennis Bang Board: the new unit is sitting at 201 Bedford St. They'll
do the demo in a week or two and are hoping for a December
installation.
Discussion of DPW facility.
TE: believes that $2.0 M is too high for Construction Drawings. Some
of that may be project management. Believes that $1.2M is closer to
the truth, but will defer to the PBC.
