1. Schedule of meetings in Feb: 6th, 21st and 27th
2. Presentation by Tony Close of School Committee on Article 11 -
Improvements needed in Diamond
The need is to make acoustical improvements at Diamond in response to
an
order from Bureau of Education. He stated that the special-ed students
involved in this case were entitled to confidentiality. The proposal
is to
reduce ambient noise in five rooms including the auditorium.
The construction costs would be $869,999 plus design costs of $150,000.
School administration has no choice because of the nature of state
order.
The inclusion in the current school project would make it reimbursable
and
will provide contractor guarantees. Concerns surfaced about the costs
of
modifications needed at the high school in future. However, there
seems to
be no choice but to comply with the order now.
Other school capital items: In response to questions Tony stated that
technology costs of $250K per year were adequate although no detail
studies
had been done. Hastings to cost $25K for parking lot, $50K for walls
and
$50K for system wide repairs. Elementary school project was voted by
SC
for, one swing space, 2 new schools -- Harrington and Fiske and design

building
costs of $173/sqft for reimbursement.
