HomeMy WebLinkAbout1999-02-03-CEC-min MEETING DATE 2/3/1999 The Capital Expenditures Committee met in Room 106 at 7:30PM. (Room 105 was under construction.) Present were C. Hornig, K. Dooks, and S. Stolz. We went over all the proposed capital articles for the 1999 Town Meeting, discussed them briefly, and took straw polls. Here are the results: Article 2? (Special TM): Portable Classrooms (~$360,000 cash) We had mixed feelings on these. We want more information on the alternatives. Dooks to arrange. Article 18: Resolution Concerning Budget Submission to Town Meeting Waiting for more information. Hornig will get it. Article 19: By-Law Amendment, Budget Waiting for more information. Hornig will get it. Article 25: Supplementary Appropriations for Authorized Capital Improvement Projects Indefinite Postponement, as far as we know. Article 26: Capital Improvements (~$633,000 cash, $200,000 stabilization fund, $700,000 chap. 90) This is the cash renewal capital article. All of us supported the small remaining amount of cash capital. We feel strongly that we need more. Article 27: Sanitary Sewers ($300,000 Enterprise) Unanimous support. Article 28: Water Mains ($315,000 Enterprise) Unanimous support. Article 29: Pine Meadows Improvements ($170,000 Enterprise) Unanimous support. Article 30: Athletic Field Development ($165,000 cash) This is the Harrington School soccer field. All of us felt this should be postponed. Article 31: Athletic Field Improvements (~$1,000,000 bond?) This is a lot of work at Clarke, Diamond, and LHS. There were mixed feelings. We wanted Recreation to come back and make a detailed presentation. Stolz to arrange for 17 February, if possible. Article 32: School Technology (~$600,000 bond) All of us felt this should be postponed. Article 33: School Capital Project (~$1,500,000 bond) This is mainly the work at Bridge. We supported this unanimously but wanted more information about the immediacy of the need. Article 34: Land Acquisition Bond This is the conservation bond. We wanted more information about exactly how this would be used and how this would fit in with potential debt exclusions. Stolz to arrange. Article 35: Land Acquisition This is the Pilgrim site. It will probably be postponed. Article 36: Town Building Inspection This is a citizen's article (E. Weiss) to appropriate money to study the condition of town buildings. I've asked Mr. Weiss to copme talk to us about it. Article 39: Stabilization Fund Indefinite Postponement Our next meeting will be held on 17 February.
