Proposed Lexington Center Streetscape Benefits and Opportunities:
Pedestrian circulation and safety is improved with new bump outs and shorter crosswalks, ADA compliant pedestrian
ramps, and properly graded and smooth brick sidewalks.
Additional seating opportunities, companion seating for the disabled, and site improvements enhance the pedestrian experience along
the north side sidewalk.
Cohesive sidewalk treatment from Meriam Street west to Woburn Street defines the Town Center- sidewalk paving, site furniture, roadway and pedestrian lighting.
New planters and new trees improve sidewalk environment.
“Bicycle boxes”, additional bike racks in Center, and additional points of access from the Minuteman Trail improve the bicyclist
experience.
Traffic merging and vehicular boundaries are clearly defined with flush median.
Woburn Street gateway reduces confusion at that intersection and is attractive element
approaching from the east.
On-street parking counts are maintained or slightly increased with reorganized layout.
