from the May meeting were reviewed and unanimously accepted.
Boardwalk Projects:
Mike summarized trail-building progress so far and planned work
remaining this season. The broken bridge in Meagherville, and 300 feet of boardwalk in
Lower Vine Brook have been completed. The next project will begin on August 2 (in
Lower Vine Brook), meeting on Fairfield Drive at 8:30 AM. The work is under budget so
far, and volunteer productivity has been higher than expected.
Subcommittee Reports:
??
North South routes
- Have not met, but plan to this month. They will combine N-S
issues with traffic calming planning.
??
CM district (Hartwell Ave) infrastructure – Have not met, but will attend Planning Board
public meeting planned for next Wednesday, June 18th. We should also attend the July
9th meeting Richard told about that will also be hosted by the Planning Board and will
feature representatives from the MAPC. Parking issues, including bicycle parking will be
on that agenda.
July Trail Count plans – MPO is setting up midsummer statewide counts on Saturday, July
12th, and Tuesday, July 15th. Stew and George will coordinate, each on one day. Stew will send
out messages requesting volunteers. The numbers are useful (for the state and for Lexington) in
planning and justifying more trail construction.
Additional Items:
??
MBTA Director Dan Grabouskus visited Alewife Station recently to announce
installation of a secure bicycle cage there; but he saw so many bicycles locked around the
station he said he will install two cages.
??
Lexington town offices are beginning to do data entry into GIS. Mike asked for inputs on
why it’s important to get trail data into the database.
??
Harvey announced he will be retiring from acting as trail steward for the section of the
Bikeway between Bedford Street and the Bedford town line. We will need to look for
new stewards there. Terry Gleason suggested asking some of the businesses in the
Hartwell Ave area to sign up for sections, like the highway “adopt a mile” program.
Meeting adjourned.
Record of Friends of Lexington Bikeways votes and discussions.
This meeting preceded the LBAC meeting, and went from 6:30 to 7 PM.
Treasurer’s Report: Rich could not attend but sent email as summarized: No
transactions in past month. Current balance is $1778.73.
Farmers’ Market:
Bike to the Market day will be June 24. Carolyn has coordinated the
schedule for staffing the bike corral (from 2 until 6:30) and preparedthe $2 coupons and
FoLB membership forms to be handed out. The schedule could use a few more
volunteers, so we’ll have two people there at all times. The town DPW will set up the
corral, and the Farmers’ Market will provide and set up the tent. The Green Way table,
that we’ll also staff this time, will be a good opportunity for handing out bike maps and
FoLB newsletters, if Abe can get some printed in time. Peggy is getting copies of the bike
maps.
Additional items
:
??
Carolyn has written a children’s book about the rail trails that she wanted us to
know about. It will be published soon.
??
We unanimously approved a $100 donation again this year to help Fern’s
maintain their porta-john.
Meeting adjourned
