HomeMy WebLinkAbout2006-10-02-ARTS-min Lexington Arts Council (LAC) Meeting Minutes for October 2, 2006 Present: Barbara Ciampa, Jackie Hawkinson, Bill Janovitz, Janet Post. Absent: Mary Trometer Chairperson Barbara Ciampa called the meeting to order and announced that our Treasurer, Mary Trometer, was recovering from emergency surgery. LAC Membership Jackie Hawkinson has been officially appointed to the Lexington Arts Council by the Selectmen and was warmly welcomed to the Council. Barbara noted that although Allan Adolph’s MCC term on the Council expires this month, the Selectmen’s appointment lasts until September, 2007. She will contact him about his intentions. Minutes of September 11th The Secretary’s minutes were accepted. Treasurer’s Report There was no Treasurer’s Report due to treasurer’s absence. Last Year’s Grant Approval Janet called Marcia Steere of Sharing a New Song (SANS), a chorus which LAC approved last year to receive $750, but who hasn’t submitted the forms for reimbursement. Marcia said SANS performed in Lexington on May 6, 2006 and said that Joan Lowry was to have sent the reimbursement forms to LAC. Janet will follow up. New Grant Proposals – Distribution of Fliers LAC has received two grant applications as of October 2. Janet will remind the schools of the th October 15 deadline. Barbara posted a notice about the LCC grants in Cary Library as well as in banks, the bread store and coffee shops. Jackie will put a reminder in the Follen Church e-mail bulletin. Another idea is to put a reminder on the cable TV community bulletin board. Three Apples Story-Telling Festival Jackie will call Bedford Cultural Council to see if they gave money to the Three Apple Story th Telling Festival in Cary Library on September 30. LAC gave $260. Request from Town Manager The Town Manager is having another session of an on-going training seminar in Cary Hall for Town committee and board members on October 21, 9–11:30 a.m. The purpose of this session is to better understand some of the issues that may arise when serving on a Town board or committee. Jackie and Janet will try to attend. Correspondence from MCC – Patrons Fund Bill has MCC information regarding spreading the word about local councils. Bill called Joan Reddy, former chair of LAC, about the Patrons Fund. Joan felt that it was too expensive and time consuming to do a repeat mailing. We decided not to conduct more fundraising until the proposed LAC gift to Cary Library has been resolved. New Grant Applications Barbara and Janet will meet on October 23 to prepare grant applications for Council members to discuss at the next meeting. Change of Meeting Time The regular meeting time was changed from 7:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Adjournment The meeting adjourned at 9:30 p.m. The next meeting of the Lexington Arts Council will be at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 2, 2006 in Room 111 in the Town Hall Building. ____________________________ /s/ Janet Post, Secretary (Note: Janet received a call on October 3 from Joan Lowry of Sharing a New Song and advised her to send their reimbursement forms directly to the LAC treasurer, Mary Trometer.
