Chair Barbara Ciampa called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.
Secretary’s Report
The secretary’s report for February 5 was accepted.
Treasurer’s Report
Treasurer Mary Trometer distributed copies of the Treasurer’s Report. Mary noted that the
Town is behind in recording interest accruals. The interest from MCC grant money can be held
in the our grant account and rolled into next year’s grant awards. Janet will be reimbursed $37
for postage relating to letters to grant applicants.
MCC/LCA Business
Barbara noted that the Massachusetts Cultural Council person now in charge of Local Cultural
Councils is Kylie Sullivan.
Barbara noted that because LCA is a Board of Selectmen-appointed committee, our meetings
must be held in the Town Office Building and our files kept in the Selectmen’s office. We will
be advised of our new selectman liaison in March.
Barbara asked Carl Valente, the Town Manager, if LCA could include a letter in a tax bill
mailing for the purpose of raising funds for community cultural projects. He said yes, if it
doesn’t increase the amount of postage.
After the Town election Barbara will write a letter to The Lexington Minuteman about the results
of LCA’s recent MCC/LCC/PASS grant awards.
Discovery Day Table
Barbara suggested that LCA participate with other nonprofit groups at Nonprofit Net’s table.
Mary and Louise will work on the small brochure for distribution at this table and other venues.
Membership Status
Janet will ask Jean Hart if she plans to become a member of LCA. Sirarpi Walzer and Louise
Cady-Fernandes have been appointed full members. Jon will complete the MCC On-Line
Training, as will other new members.
Patrons Fund
Bill will draft a letter to school PASS grant recipients. Jon will call the principal of each school
seeking permission to include a paragraph on PASS-supported field trip permission forms about
LCA and ask parents for donations to LCA’s Patrons Fund. He will report back on how this was
received at the schools.
2.
Mary pointed out that our tax ID comes under the Town of Lexington tax ID number. Donations
should be sent to Lexington Council of the Arts, c/o Town of Lexington, Attention: Treasurer.
Clarifications
Janet received the following clarification from Sara Ewing of MCC:
The language about funding
projects retroactively can be found in the LCC guidelines on page 12. "LCCs may consider applications that take
place during the 18-month period between July 1st preceding the application deadline and December 31st of the
following year (18 months later)."
Barbara will clarify with the Selectmen’s Office as to LCA term limits for Sirarpi and Louise.
Barbara will contact people at Lexington High School to see when the Ella Dimmock Award is
to be given, $250 for a singer. Mary thinks it’s at the High School Pops Concert. David
Williams is the trustee of the fund. The award derives from the interest accrued from the
Dimmock Fund; if not $250, LCA contributes the difference.
New Business
Jackie talked with Cindy Savage about the 2013 Celebration Committee. She referred her to
Susan Rockwell. Jackie advised them that LCA would like to be involved in the celebration.
Bill has a list of past donors to the Patrons Fund. He suggested writing a personal letter to them
to continue to support the Fund; he will work on that letter as well as the PASS field trip
permission slip addendum.
Mary and Louise will work on a design for a new LCA logo/letterhead.
The meeting adjourned at 8:45. Next meeting –7:00, April 2, 2007, Room 111, Town Office
Building.
Respectfully submitted,
/s/ Janet Post, Secretary
