Minutes of Lexington Tree Committee Meeting November 8, 2007
Present: David Pinsonneault, Superintendent of Public Grounds, Jeanne Kreiger, Selectman

1. Anne Senning was appointed as scribe. The minutes of October 11 were accepted with 4
changes.
Superintendent of Public Grounds’ report and Bylaw report
2. .
Bylaw report
2a. David Pinsonneault reported: 534 sites visited, 426 sites closed. Total
applications for tree removal 640, with 482 trees removed. Total trees to plant 1523, with 1098
planted.
Current Tree Bylaw set back
2b. : David Pinsonneault presented, Committee reviewed, Bylaw
measured 15’, 15’, 15’ from each edge of the property on the sides and back and 30’ from the
edge of the pavement (eop) in the front. This practice is in accord with the Tree Bylaw passed by
2007 Town Meeting and approved by the Attorney General.
Belfry Hill grant
2c. : Grant submitted 11/1/07. John Frey, Nell Walker and Anne Senning met
with the Community Preservation Committee (CPC) on 11/7/07. The grant is going forward
under the Open Space section. Next steps: meetings with the Conservation Commission 12/4/07,
neighbors, and waiting for written questions and requests for documents from the CPC.
East Lexington Trees
2d. : John Frey will meet with a member of the DPW staff on11/13/07 to
place stakes at the Robbins Cemetery for 2 elms and on red maple to facilitate Dig Safe.
Tree Farm
2e. : Jim Wood reported that on 10/27/07 he, John Frey, Barbara Kent & Anne
Senning took up the irrigation hoses and stored them in John Frey’s barn. David Pinsonneault
reported that Matt Foti had raised several oaks, fertilized, pruned, and treated trees for pests.
Tree Management Manual
2f. : Nell Walker reported that she, John Frey, Karen Longeteig,
Markus Pinney, & Anne Senning began a review of the 2003 manual. The Bylaw will be
updated. Three drawings will be added: an illustration of structural soil, an illustration of
tubular irrigation, an illustration of the current Tree Bylaw set back (15’, 15’, 15’, 30’). 2003
manual will be translated from PDF into Word.

3. : Gerry Paul
Commemorative Tree Program
3a. : Jane Beswick agreed to take over managing the program.
Susan Solomon has requested to be relieved of her duties. Thanks were extended to both women,
Susan for running the program for several years and Jane for picking it up. Nell Walker will
email Jane the procedures. Anne Senning will meet with Jane to talk over the program.
Bittersweet eradication
3b. : Date set for 11/17/07 in the am on the path between Lincoln Park
and Bridge School. Gerry Paul will send an email with further details.
Tree Committee logo stationary/envelope
4. : Nell Walker presented an envelope and
stationary, which was approved unanimously, with thanks.
Harvard graduate landscape student
5. : Anne Senning presented an overture from a graduate
student to work with the Tree Committee on design project. Anne to explore possible projects:
Harrington and Fiske Schools and Ada Grogan Bird Sanctuary.
