Jewel Kuljian gave a brief report and update on the activities and progress of the FOT. They have helped secure 10-12 more trees for planting through the Garden Club’s allocation vote of $1500 for planting. Representatives from 4 groups will arrange a meeting to decide where the trees shall be planted, tentatively to include: Tree Warden, David Pinsonneault (Town), Nell Walker (Tree Committee), Anne Cuervo (Garden Club), Jewel (FOT). 7. Tree Warden Report: David Pinsonneault 7.1 506 total sites, 410 closed, Total applications for tree removal 597, with 474 removed, Total trees to plant 1440, with 1064 planted. 7.2 Dave reported on two recent Public Shade Tree Hearing decisions (two trees on Mass. Av. at Battle Green Inn and 4 trees on Mass. Av. Between Waltham St. and the alley at Michelson’s Shoes) that have been appealed to the Selectmen on the following Monday evening. Tree Committee members were encouraged to appear. Members supported the Tree Warden’s recommendation to allow removal of 4 trees, but try to save the largest healthiest tree at the west end of each site. 7.3 Dave reported on the Tree Farm. Arborist Matt Foti, of Foti Tree, walked the Tree Farm looking for evidence of winter moth. Mr. Foti proposed spraying when necessary, placing collars around new saplings, and, performing maintenance root pruning at no cost to the town. He is interested in using a minor portion of the site to plant stock. Tree Committee members debated the matter and, with conditions, voiced agreement on the proposal. Conditions included: a) requesting Dave to keep the TC regularly informed, b) it should be determined that town needs for planting space are not adversely impacted, and that, c) arrangements with Mr. Foti are clearly delineated so that no adverse precedent is created. Dave is to discuss the matter in an on-going basis with Karen Mullins and Jim Wood as needed. Dave agreed. He will follow up with Mr. Foti, Ms. Mullins, and Mr. Wood. 7.4 Dave reported on Trees to be pruned. This concluded the Tree Warden Report. 8. It was noted that an end of August planting was scheduled in East Lexington. The Tree Committee Meeting was Adjourned at 9:47 AM. Respectfully Submitted, Markus Pinney
