Tree Committee Minutes August 12, 2004

Absent: Jim Jones, Susan Solomon, Jean Krieger
1. Jim Wood in alphabetical rotation, was designated secretary for this session.

2. We postponed approving the Tree Committee Minutes of June 10, 2004 lacking a corrected copy.

3. Minutes for July 8, 2004 were read and corrected as follows:

4. Forestry Division Report: Given by Dave Pinsonneault as of October 1,2001: Tree removal on Spring
Street was properly done per Dave Pinsonneault. 193 calls, 259 trees marked for replacement, 567 to be
replaced, 132 closed out (either no trees affected or no replanting required). From January 2004: 28 planted
(including 11 funded by the Kirk Trust) on Worthen Road, 72 removed, 72 pruned and 3 treated.
5. Tree Inventory Program:
5.1 Grant Application to perform a Tree Inventory was not approved.
5.2 Anne Senning to contact Sherri Brokopp regarding software support and the memorandum of
understanding.
5.3 John Frey and Jim Wood to contact Dave Williams re Trust Fund application for the Tree Inventory
Program.
5.4 General Considerations: IPAC models-keyboard vs. Stylus under consideration, Tree Identification
Instruction-Will not hire someone to perform but will use internal Tree Committee resources if
required. Tree Inventory Plan, given that the Grant was disapproved. The Tree Committee will seek
either Town Funds or Town Trust Funds to proceed at a reduced level. Tree Survey coverage level,
Dave Pinsonneault recommended that we survey Fletcher Street to Hancock Street and the Town
Center.
6. Memorial Tree Fund:
6.1 New Estimate for printing 300 copies of the brochure is $ 269.00
6.2 Karen Longeteig provided a draft of the Memorial Tree Fund Brochure for distribution to the
Selectmen and review by the Tree Committee.
6.3 Application for the Memorial Tree Fund, drafted by Jim Jones, was distributed to the Tree Committee
for review.
7. Brookhaven Planting Review: John Frey reviewed his recommended changes with the Tree Committee and
will communicate those recommended changes by letter to the Lexington Board of Appeals.
8. The meeting was adjourned at 09:15 AM
