Solomon, N. Walker and J. Wood 1. Minutes of the December 11 meeting were approved as amended. 2. New Member: The Committee recommended that Jim Jones be appointed to the TreeCommittee. 3. Applications for Tree Removal: (DP) 151 requests 72 resolved 208 removed 452 replanted Discussed how to keep records of trees legally removed in anticipation of later construction – no conclusion reached N. Walker reported removal of a street tree on Outlook Dr. J. Frey reported removal of several large spruce trees abutting a paper street at rear of 1109(?) Mass Ave. Lincoln St. Plantings handout distributed 4. 'Tree City' Designation: The application was submitted Dec. 3, 2003 by David Pinsonneault. 5. Annual Report: Wording submitted by JF approved by Tree Committee 6. Fee Discussion: (NW) Increase the cost of a Building Permit - each application requires 50 - 60 minutes of D. Pinsonneault's time to visit and evaluate site. Increased fees will be discussed with B. Hadley. (DP) 7. Tree Manual Review: Connie Rawson (MIS Director) previewed how the Tree Manual will appear on the Town Web site. Committee was very enthusiastic about this accomplishment. 8. Tree Manual Distribution: 1,000 copies received (stored at DPW barn). 100 sent to Building Inspections Dept. for distribution to Contractors. Inspections will log recipients (to avoid duplicate distribution). A $4.00/Manual charge was set. One copy will be sent to DEM with the next Grant application. A copy will be sent to P. Mazarall. A. Senning will prepare a courtesy distribution list. 9. Tree Manual Publicity: Put announcement in a town-wide mailing, Write a 'Guest' column for the Minuteman, Put announcement in the LF&GC newsletter. 10. Rindge Park: Tree planting site-plan completed, 3 trees in Arlington, abutting the park 11 trees; for variety, recommend different tree species Trees 1, 2 & 3: Sugar & red maple to shade Tot Lot (see subsequent plant list) Tree 4: Scarlet oak Trees 5 & 6: Tulip Tree to form gate entrance Trees 7 & 8: Fruiting trees to attract birds and screen Tree 9: Red maple Trees 10 & 11: Red & White oaks 11. Warrant Article: Amend the by-law to conform with reality. J. Frey will speak with BoS Chair, L. McSweeney. Meeting adjourned at 9:30 AM.
