Walker, J. Wood and J. Krieger (Selectman) 1. Minutes of the June 12 meeting were approved as submitted. 2. D. Pinsonneault is on vacation. 3. Tree Manual: Decisions made during the June 19 working session at J. Frey’s house were reviewed. Printing Issues: 1,000 copies; text: double-sided; graphics: single sided; all 60# vellum. covers: 1 color; light green 67# Bristol; black plastic spiral binding. Best quote is Sir Speedy (Bedford St., Lexington) at $2,127 ($2.13 ea.). They have been very cooperative. September deadline. 4. Massachusetts DEM Grant Application: (J. Wood) All work must be done during the Grant period. Work done previously can not be credited. Landscape Architect can be billed at $25/hr. Monies are available for this Grant. Letters of support are to be solicited from Selectmen, Conservation Commission, Lexington Field & Garden Club and Tree Committee. Proposal is due Aug. 15 to Eric Seaborn --- Urban Forestry Program 5. Tree Manual Copyright: Cost is $20. Copyright whole manual or graphics only? Why? (J. Krieger): To recognize quality of work, not to discourage reproduction. Refer to Town Counsel for decision. 6. Tree Planting and Removal at Rindge Park (Arlington Reservoir): Large willow removed. Neighbors raised over $200 for new trees. Other species recommended. There is room for several trees. Will schedule walk with neighbors (J. Frey et.al.) Good opportunity to form a "Friends of Park" organization (use Lincoln Park as example). Prepare a "List of Needs" rather than just react. Arlington is removing trees to preserve the dam, prevent erosion and as flood control? Doubts expressed that tree removal is appropriate for these aims. 7. Meeting adjourned at 9:00 AM. Next meeting: Thursday, August 14, 2003 at 7:30 AM in Rm. 111, Town Office Bldg. Respectfully submitted: Susan Snell Solomon
