HomeMy WebLinkAbout2003-05-08-TREE-min Minutes - Lexington Tree Committee May 8, 2003 @ 7:30 AM Town Office Building: Rm. 111 Attendance: J. Frey, K. Longeteig, P. Mazerall, D. Pinsonneault, A. Senning and S. Solomon and J. Kreiger (Selectman) 1. Minutes of the April 10 meeting were approved as submitted. 2. Tree Removal Application: a) No new requests. b) Two trees that were removed on Burlington St. were hazards (located on town right-of- way). 3. Grants: a) The state will send notifications by the end of the month. b) How are the manual printing cost to be funded? Get quotes from local printers (Longeteig & Solomon). c) A tree survey might get a state grant with matching funds from Town Meeting. 4. Report from Tower Hill Symposium: It was an excellent conference --- its printed materials are circulating. 5. Lexington Toyota: The pear trees are in full bloom; they have not been removed. 6. Tree Manual: a) Suggested that the Lions Club be approached for funding. (Mazerall) b) Contest in Schools for cover? Rejected because of time factor. c) Front cover will feature "proper planting of a tree" graphic. d) Adding chapter 87 text will add 2 - 3 pages. e) Distribution at Libraries and Town Office Building suggested. Distribution via town-wide mailing rejected because of postage expense. 7. LHS: a) The quad is transformed and ‘looks great’. b) Approximately 70 volunteers worked to beautify the area. c) Flowers are currently blooming. d) Planted stress and drought tolerant elm instead of pear. 6.
