Minutes – Lexington Tree Committee
April 10, 2003 @ 7:30 AM
Town Office Building: Rm. 111
Attendance: J. Frey, K. Longeteig, P. Mazerall, D. Pinsonneault, A. Senning and S. Solomon, N.
Walker, J. Wood
1. Minutes of the Mar. 13 meeting were approved as submitted.
2. "Tree City USA" signs need to be purchased and their locations approved. (D. Pinsonneault)
3. Tree Removal Application:
a) The 51" Oak St. at 28 Shade St. were deemed to be a hazard. The property owners will
permit new tree to be located, back from the street, on their property.
b) The dead pine tree at the intersection of the Bike Path and Camilla Place is to be
replaced. (waiting funding on David Pinsonneault’s replacement list)
c) Two maple trees near the Worthen Rd. boardwalk are also requested to be replaced.
4. Grant Application: Still awaiting an award.
5. BARC Meeting in Bedford: Bedford Heritage received a $4500 grant for tree maintenance. (J.
Frey) J. Wood volunteered to write applications as needed and to research Town Trust monies
that might be available. (J. Wood)
6. Lexington Toyota: The trees have been removed; replacements awaited.
7. Tree Manual: Graphics were approved along with suggestions for improvement.
8. LHS Trees: Pears are too small and will not give the required shade. Insufficient knowledge of
trees that have already been ordered. Revisions would require a Change Order. Recommend
working with P. Kelley to swap elms for pears. (K . Longeteig).
9. Emery Park: Plantings have ‘volcanoes’ around trees; same problem at the Visitors Center and
Town Hall. (D. Pinsonneault)
10. Alternate Funding: Explore Trust funds and other sources. (S. Solomon & J. Wood)
11. Memorial Tree Program: Donors must be flexible as to species and location. Standards
needed for ID plaques. A permanent log needs to be created and maintained at the Town Office.
12. Meeting adjourned at 9:30 AM.
Next meeting May 8, 2003 at 7:30 AM in Rm. 111, Town Office Bldg.
Respectfully submitted:
Susan Snell Solomon
