Minutes - Lexington Town Tree Committee
August 8, 2002 @ 7:30 AM
Town Office Building: Room G-15
Attendance: J. Frey, K. Longeteig, P. Mazerall, D. Pinsonneault (Tree Warden), S.
Solomon and N. Walker.
1. The minutes of the July 11 meeting were approved as amended.
2. Reappointment of members whose term has expired:
J. Frey and S. Solomon would serve if reappointed.
J. Griscom has resigned Lucy Lockwood and Anne Senning were suggested as potential new
members for known available slots.
3. Tree Planting Status (D.P.):
Twenty trees remain to be planted at various street addresses.
M. Fotti won tree planting bid.
Planted trees are being watered. One (out of forty) trees was lost. Trees are from approximately
ten species.
Sixty building permits --- 100 trees removed --- 200 trees replaced.
4. Massachusetts ReLeaf Application:
No awards have been made at this time
5. Minuteman articles:
K. Longeteig --- Tree technology --- written and approved
N. Walker --- Historic overview of Emory Park and Depot Sq. --- pending
Future suggestions:
“Lets Talk Trees”
Tree inventory advantages
Success story of burning to remove “woodies” at East St. and Doran
Lane about ten years ago.
Champion Trees.
6. Tree Inventory:
Committee members to approach Chairs of “Money Committees” to clarify our
request and enlist support for an inventory appropriation at the 2003 Town Meeting.
Appropriations (P. Hamburger) --- J. Frey
Capital Expenditures (S. Stoltz) --- S. Solomon
7. Tree Manual:
The next meeting is to be devoted to review and editing.
8. Memorial Tree Brochure:
On hold.
9. Meeting adjourned at 9:30 AM.
