MINUTES LEXINGTON TREE COMMITTEE, MARCH 26, 2002
Attendance: Frey, Mazerall, Solomon, Walker, Wood
Mass ReLeaf grant application mailed on time
1)
2) Vote to reverse the decision, taken March 14, to
incorporate Article #12 fund request into Article #4
Unanimous decision to keep it as a stand-alone article
Reasons: a) the selectmen and both financial committees will oppose the
dollar request
b) a stand-alone article has 15 minutes for presentation and
unlimited time for discussion from the floor, whereas a line item
in Article #4 is permirtted only 3 minutes
proxy votes received from Karen Longeteig and Joanna Griscom
3) Discussion of the strategy for floor discussion of Article #12
at Town Meeting
a) John Frey will present the article and prepare
supporting slides
b) Susan Solomon will line up speakers supporting the
article
Kay Tiffany, Jackie Ward, Patrick Mehr, B.B. Fallick suggested
Also will call Ginna J. to find out how many trees were planted in Emery
Park as replacements
c) Nell Walker will speak for the article
d) Several items that need to be clarified
GIS or GPS system
Who is to enter the data; walk through the procedure for entering data
Full inventory, not a statistical base
Estimate savings in dollars and manpower over the long term
How long it will be before the savings are eident
To include trees on public ways and on park land and conservation land
(?)
Will additional hardware/software be required
e) handout will be available for town meeting members
by Monday April 1
