HomeMy WebLinkAbout2005-12-07-BOH-min Lexington Board of Health, December 7, 2005, Meeting Minutes G-15, 1625 Massachusetts Avenue, Lexington, MA Attendees: Board of Health: Wendy Heiger-Bernays, Chair; Burt Perlmutter; Sharon MacKenzie, Deborah Thompson Health Department: Derek Fullerton, Ann Belliveau The meeting began at 7:05 PM. There was no public participation. Heiger-Bernays asked the Board to review the minutes of November 21, 2005. Thompson motioned to accept the minutes as amended. MacKenzie seconded. All approved. Heiger-Bernays asked the Board to review the disease tracking, complaints and inspections. Tegan Evans, a MPH student at Boston University, presented a proposal for education of multi-family landlords and pesticide use. Donald V. Rivard of Rivard’s Resources IPM, Environmental Management is interested in a program presented by Ms. Evans. Heiger-Bernays would like Mr. Rivard to present a proposal to the Board. The Board approved pursing this endeavor in more detail. Fullerton advised the Board of a mutual aid plan developed as a draft by DPH. Fullerton will present to the Board for adoption. Fullerton will bring to the January 2006 meeting, an Emergency Operations Plan for adoption and signoff by the Board of Health. Heiger-Bernays proposed to the Board an emergency preparedness meeting to discuss the Keyspan incident and then expand to the flu pandemic. Heiger-Bernays recommended meeting on Wednesday, January 25, 2006. The Board agreed. Heiger-Bernays also recommended for the future, an emergency planning session to include the Selectmen, Fire, Police and the public, in conjunction with other towns. Cynthia Piltch appeared before the Board requesting a home based massage establishment as well as a traveling massage therapy permit. The Board granted Ms. Piltch the home based massage establishment and the traveling message therapy permit. Fullerton began a discussion concerning the Estabrook School indoor air quality recently conducted by DPH personnel. Fullerton said that based on that investigation there is no imminent health hazard at the present time. The HVAC system at Estabrook has already been evaluated and will be corrected during the school holiday vacation. Most of the problems are with air circulation. Heiger-Bernays asked if we should check all schools for house keeping issues. Perlmutter asked if the schools check ceiling tiles for mold. Fullerton will make up a housekeeping list for all the schools and it should be presented to the School Facilities Superintendent and Superintendent of Schools. MacKenzie would like to represent the Board of Health as a liaison to the Sidewalk Committee. Fullerton informed the Board that the idling pamphlets have been prepared and ready to be distributed. He also mentioned that 2 out of 3 idling reduction grants have been funded with the EPA grant submitted and are awaiting outcome. MacKenzie motioned to adjourn. Perlmutter seconded. All approved.
