Lexington Board of Health January 8, 2004 Meeting Minutes

Board of Health: James Fearnside, Chair; Burt Perlmutter; Wendy Heiger-Bernays;
Jean Kelley; Sharon MacKenzie
Health Department: Kathy Fox; Ann Belliveau
The meeting began at 7:05 p.m. There was no public participation.
Fearnside asked the Board to review the minutes of the December 11, 2003 meeting.
Perlmutter motioned to approve as amended and MacKenzie seconded, all approved.
Fearnside asked Kathy Fox to invite Cathleen Higgins, Supervisor of the School Lunch
Program, to attend the Board of Health Meeting scheduled for Thursday, February 12,
2004.
Fearnside began a discussion concerning the proposed Grease Trap Regulations.
Fearnside mentioned the addition of the $50.00 fine to the regulation. Heiger-Bernays
suggested looking at testing methods. Fox will discuss with both DPW and the MWRA
and report back at the next meeting.
The Chair opened a discussion concerning the current Board of Health Charge and
proposed changes. After a brief discussion, Heiger-Bernays wanted to research other
charges and discuss at the next meeting.
Fearnside commended Heiger-Bernays and Kathy Fox for their work on the Town
Annual Report.
Fearnside asked Fox for an update concerning 81 Westview Street. Fox stated she was
getting estimates from hazardous waste companies to cleanup the property including the
removal of the drums filled with oil . The 20 plus automobiles will also be removed.
Fearnside then asked Fox if there would be any problem with Martha Wood, Health
Agent, to receive a book of violation tickets. Fox indicated that Wood should pick the
ticket book up directly from the Police Department since she would need to sign for the
ticket book.
Fox advised the Board of her conversation with New England Home Health Care
concerning disease surveillance. New England Home Health Care are very interested and
would be willing to send someone on an as needed basis instead of a contract basis.
The next Board of Health Meeting will be on Thursday, February 12, 2004.
Perlmutter moved to close the meeting. Heiger-Bernays seconded. All approved.
The meeting ended at 8:30 p.m.
