Minutes of February 3, 2000
Commissioners in attendance: Ian Adamson, Dan Fenn, Joann Gschwendtner, and Lynn
Hopkins; Associate Commissioners:, Jeffrey Denzak, Elaine Doran, and Daniel Griffin.
PETITIONS HEARD:
1605 Mass. Avenue – Cary Hall –
Tom Murphy and Bill Murphy from W.H. Rowe presented
plans for an elevator at Cary Hall. Commissioners felt design was good but continued for
additional detail.
1433 Mass. Avenue -
David and Linda Williams received approval for a new storm door,
fencing, landscaping, and new driveway and walkway. Certificate No. 2000C-11
7 Harrington Road – First Parish Unitarian Church –
Russ Brami received approval for a
roof vent and two (2) storm windows. Hearing continued for storm window details. Dan Fenn
recused himself. Certificate No. 2000C-12

40 Hancock Street
– Richard Millman received approval to remove rear chimney scaled down
gazebo, bay window (to match existing). Continued for more detail on eave and gazebo detail.
922 Mass. Avenue –
Edwin and Britta McCarthy received approval for an addition to the rear of
the house, new front door, chimney caps, and plaque on front. Certificate No. 2000C-13
1709 Mass. Avenue –
Dale Broach, representing Carolinas, received approval for three lettered
gold signs to be located on Mass. Avenue, Edison Way, and rear. Certificate No. 2000C-4
1088 Mass. Avenue –
Donald and Victoria Sullivan received approval new Caradco wood
windows with 7/8” muttons. Continued for new Garage and driveway. Certificate No. 2000C-7
1776 Mass. Avenue –
Hazel Hopkins, representing Citizens Bank, received approval for Dark
Bronze lettering with logo on front with necessary repair to building facade. Rear sign repaired
and repainted white with black lettering, and repair and paint front entry alcove. (4-1 vote,
Associate Commissioner Doran opposed) Continued for information on plaque at alley.

31 Curve Street –
David and Bill Rothfuchs received approval for Massachusetts Field Stone
wall (6 to 8 inch rocks) Hearing left open for any minor changes as project goes along.

INFORMAL HEARINGS
23 Bedford Street -
Mr. Cunnigham will return for formal hearing on ridge vents and swing set.
Town Center Signage –
Marita Hartshorn, representing the Lexington Bicycle Advisory
Committee, presented signs to help stop people from riding bikes, etc. on sidewalks. The
Commission was concerned there were too many signs (13), asked number to be cut back. Also
suggested wood signs would be more attractive and people might pay attention. Will return in
March for formal hearing.
The minutes of January 6, 2000 were approved.
