Citizens and Other Boards 2. Minutes . The minutes of the April 11, 2006 Recreation Committee meeting were approved 3 – 0 3. Lincoln Park Update Karen Simmons reported that she had attended the dedication of the new Kirk Overlook at th Lincoln Park on Saturday, May 7. The Lincoln Park Sub-committee constructed the overlook with funds from the Kirk Trust Fund. Karen feels that the project came out looking very nice. She also reported that the Lincoln Park Subcommittee is planning on replacing sections of the existing boardwalk in the near future. Karen Simmons informed the Recreation Committee that Geller Sport had received a Facility Design Award for the Lincoln Park Restoration Project from the Boston Society of Landscape Architects. She and Dave Pinsonneault attended the award dinner and ceremony in Cambridge. 4. Recreation Report th ?? Discovery Day will be held on Saturday, May 27. Karen Simmons asked if any Committee members were available to represent the Recreation Department at the booth that day. Sandra Shaw volunteered to work in the morning and Dick Thuma said he would help out after 12:00 noon. ?? Karen Simmons thanked Dick Thuma for his very effective Town Meeting presentation of the Recreation Capital Article. Town Meeting approved funding for the Center Playground, the infrastructure study of the Town Pool and the equipment purchase for Pine Meadows. ?? The Recreation Committee members were given the updated Field Permit Policy. Dick Thuma asked if all permit holders had received this update. Season permit holders have been mailed a copy of the updated policy and tier structure. Daily users will receive the new policy when they request permit information. 1625 MASSACHUSETTS AVENUE • LEXINGTON, MASSACHUSETTS 02420 ?? The Town Pool and the Old Reservoir swimming facilities will open at noon on Saturday, June 3. Staff testing and training will be held that Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. ?? Sandra Shaw asked if the Recreation Department knew the location of bike racks at Recreation areas. We do not have a complete inventory; however there are currently bike racks at Lincoln Park, the Town Pool and Adams Playground. Department personnel will work on an inventory in the next few months. ?? Karen Simmons reported that 4 quotes were submitted for the Pine Meadows Hydrology Study. The quotes ranged from $11,000 to $58,000. $50,000 was appropriated for the study in FY2006. The Town Engineering Department will review the proposals and make a recommendation. ?? Karen Simmons and Karen Mullins, Conservation Administrator, walked the brook between ndth the 2 and 8 fairways at Pine Meadows Golf Course. Karen Mullins approved some clearing of debris in and around the brook. Dave Pinsonneault will try to secure some assistance from the Department of Corrections to do the work, as they have done in the past. 5. Parks Report ?? Dave Pinsonneault told the Recreation Committee that the Recreation Department and Parks Department are working with M.E. O’Brien and Sons and Landscape Structures to finalize a design for the Center Playground structure reconstruction. A public information meeting on the project is planned for June before the next Recreation Committee meeting. Sample designs are posted in the Recreation Office. If the equipment is ordered in early July the community can expect that the new playground structure will be installed in mid-September. ?? The new roll down doors for the Pool, Tennis Booth and Old Reservoir building will be th installed by May 13. ?? The Temple Isaiah volunteers did their annual community service project at the Old th Reservoir on May 7. They raked and cleaned the beach and weeded along the fence. ?? Dave Pinsonneault told the Recreation Committee members that there is some money remaining in the Harrington article to purchase and plant 6 trees between the school parking lot and the fields. He also reported that one new tree was recently donated for the front of the pool and some smaller shrubs and trees will be planted along the fence at the rear of the pool rd facility prior to June 3. ?? Karen Simmons and Dave Pinsonneault met with Bill Kealy and Gary Kaczmarek at the Harrington Field. Neither was willing to comment on the results of the field construction nor present copies of the field specifications. Hank Manz indicated that he would speak with Town Manager, Carl Valente on this. ?? Dave Pinsonneault and Sheila Butts will meet with Richard Petrasso in June to review the plans for the new Tennis Practice Board at the Center Playground.
