Chisholm Richard Thuma RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING March 31, 2005 Members Present Sandra Shaw, Don Chisholm, Pam Varrm, Dick Thuma, and Rick DeAngelis Staff Present Karen Simmons, Sheila Butts and Dave Pmsonneault AGENDA 1 Citizens and Other Boards 2. Meeting Minutes The minutes of the February 16 and March 9, 2005 meetings were approved 4 — 0 3 Community Preservation Act Karen Simmons and Sandra Shaw reported that Town Meeting passed the Community Preservation Act warrant article At the next town election the residents will vote on adoption of the CPA. 4 Lincoln Park Bathrooms The Recreation Committee discussed, at length, the pros and cons of going forward with the Capital Article to fund construction of the Lincoln Park bathrooms • Dick Thuma suggested that the design of the facility should go through the Permanent Building Committee • Rick DeAngelis noted that there is no design plan for the building, although he advised the Committee that he had heard that Selectman Peter Kelley was discussing the project with town builders and representatives of youth sports leagues in the Town. • Sandra Shaw informed the Recreation Committee about the meeting she recently attended, which had been called by the Selectmen. • Dick Thuma asked if the majority of Recreation Committee members believed that the project should go forward in 2005 —2006 Rick DeAngelis indicated his preference to indefinitely postpone the Capital Article Don Chisholm asked if it 1625 MASSACHUSETTS AVENUE•LEXINGTON MASSACHUSETTS 02420 V\Recreation Committee.REC\2005-03-31-REC-mun.doc 2 were feasible to postpone the Town Meeting discussion and vote until the last night of Town Meeting. The Article is scheduled for either April 6 or 11 Rick DeAngelis proposed the following motion The Recreation Committee authorizes the chairman to seek advice and counsel of the Moderator to seek a date at the end of Town Meeting for discussion of Article 27 Dick Thuma seconded this motion. The Recreation Committee approved the motion by a vote of 5—0 Rick DeAngelis then made the following motion The Recreation Committee will seek indefinite postponement of Article 27 unless there is a packet (plans and documents for the bathroom facility) to present to Town Meeting which includes an agreed upon design and revised budget The motion was seconded by Don Chisholm and approved by the Recreation Committee 5— 0 5. Recreation Report Karen Simmons reported that the late public school summer release date (June 29) is affecting our summer program schedule She also advised the Committee that the majority of seasonal summer employees have been hired. 6. Parks Report Dave Pinsonneault reported on the status of the Adams Tennis and Basketball Court bid. He also informed the Committee that Waverley Landscaping would be at Harrington to skin the infield of the softball field. In response to Dick Thuma's question about maintenance of the Lincoln Park bathroom facility when it is built, Dave indicated that DPW would be responsible, unless an alternative was proposed. 7 New Business The Recreation Committee meeting scheduled for April 13, 2005 at 6 30 p m. is cancelled. The next meeting will be May 18th at 7 30 p m. in Room G15 of the Town Office Building. The Recreation Committee meeting adjourned at 8 30 p m
