Neumeier RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING JULY 12, 2000 Members Present: Sandra Shaw, Pam Varrin, Don Chisholm, Dick Neumeier Staff Present: Karen Simmons, Brian Gilbert, Matt Casparius Others Present: Jeanne Krieger, Board of Selectmen; John Allen, New England Golf AGENDA: John Allen of New England Golf provided us with a descriptive tour of Pine Meadows. He noted that the new putting green came out nicely and that the wells that were put in 1 ½ years ago are working well. The new irrigation system is projected to be constructed in the fall with a start date in October. The contract has been awarded to Lawhorn Irrigation. This year we have a new three-year golf cart lease. Due to many requests we ordered carts with roofs. The management company has been receiving a lot of positive feedback about how good rd the course looks. Twelve new maple trees have been placed on the right on the 3 hole. The rd rough on the 3 is being moved toward the left. The sand traps on #3 were finished in May. th New England Golf and the Town have also received positive feedback on the 9 hole with the thth cart path on the other side of the net now. There is also a new cart path between the 5 and 6 thth tees. The students from Minuteman Tech did a great job with the landscaping on the 4 and 6 holes. They rebuilt a retaining wall and stairs. Parking continues to be a problem. Dick Lakutis, a landscape architect, was hired to recommend a plan for increased parking. One consideration is moving the maintenance shed over to the woods next to #1 and 3 and then reconfiguring the parking lot. One thing New England Golf would like to do is to get the course re-rated. 1625 MASSACHUSETTS AVENUE • LEXINGTON, MASSACHUSETTS 02420 2 This year players can electronically submit their scores to the USGA for their handicap. Players really seem to enjoy the electronic handicapping available in the clubhouse. Karen is currently waiting for Amory Engineering to inspect the upper pond and retaining wall and make their recommendations for repairs/renovations on the retaining wall. John then expects that the boring work will be done in September or October. Karen commended John Allen and his crew for the great work they have done on the course. The Town and New England Golf Corporation have an excellent partnership! NEXT MEETING: WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2000 ROOM G-15 7:30 P.M.
