Economic Development Task Force Report:
By consensus, and with thanks to the members of
the Task Force, the Committee accepted and approved the final report. The only question was
about the amount of revenue projected. Mollie and Greg both responded that it is a range
because there are many variables and it’s too early to give a precise estimate. The Task Force is
scheduled to make a presentation to the Board of Selectmen on September 15, in a joint meeting
with the Planning Board.
Next Steps:
Committee members began planning a community event to publicize the EDTF
report and maintain an open process between now the spring 2009 Town Meeting. The purpose
is to evoke community discussion so that everyone understands and can weigh in on the issues.
?
Saturday, October 4, from 9:30 12:30: Ann will reserve the Library Meeting Room.
—
?
Fernando will call Edie Sandy to invite TMMA to co-sponsor the event.
?
EDTF will present report findings and recommendations, possibly followed by some
consultant information.
?
The Planning Board/staff will identify major topics and share alternative scenarios.
?
Small group discussions will follow the presentations,
?
Publicize in Colonial Times and Minuteman, on TMMA list, and have LexMedia videotape
the event.
The Economic Development Advisory Committee and the Planning Board will continue moving
the work of the EDTF forward.
Task Force Process Issues:
Mollie identified an issue around how a group that deliberately
brings together diverse views comes to closure on conclusions and recommendations. She
suggested that the Committee lay out ground rules, and also assist chairpersons with getting the
group to work together productively. Mollie noted that 2020 Vision Committee members can be
resources for this. Candy mentioned that the Town is planning another of its annual committee
chair training sessions later this fall/winter, and she will suggest this issue be included. Mollie
said the EDTF report notes where issues were not fully addressed. Marian raised the question of
minority reports, which can be helpful information if more than a single person’s viewpoint.
Mollie suggested that the Committee evaluate the role of Committee liaisons to Task Forces.
The liaison provides beneficial communication and feedback, and can provide resources to the
Task Force. However, liaisons may also have institutional roles in Town that conflict with the
Task Force’s direction.
Next Meeting: 7:45
