2020 Vision Committee Meeting
Tuesday, June 3, 2008
7:45 - 9:00 a.m. in Selectmen’s Meeting Room
In attendance:
Fernando Quezada (Chair), George Burnell, Peter Enrich, Ann Redmon,
Greg Zurlo, Carl Valente, Candy McLaughlin
The minutes from the May 9 meeting were approved.
Economic Development Task Force update:
Greg said the Cecil Group has almost
completed their report. Their work has been good for providing a framework and
identifying options. The EDTF needs 2-3 more meetings to discuss the Cecil Group’s
recommendations and develop their own report. Their recommendations are likely to
include rezoning, streamlining the permitting process, and creating an Economic
Development Advisory Board. The Selectmen plan to establish the new committee this
month, and there was some discussion of the role of this group.
Peter suggested rolling out the Task Force’s final report at a public meeting in July, to
help build public understanding of the context and maintain momentum for the
commercial development conversation. Carl noted that the Town Meeting Members
Association has a successful approach for gearing up for Town Meeting with their
information nights, and they could sponsor a public meeting in the fall after the Planning
Board has identified its direction for the year.
Demographic Change Task Force update:
Candy reported that this Task Force will
have its first meeting on June 11.
Input to Selectmen’s Goal Setting:
In response to the Selectmen’s request for topics to
discuss at their July 8 goal-setting meeting, two suggestions were made. First, from a big
picture environmental perspective, water will a critical resource to be addressed. More
generally, the Committee asked the Selectmen to use the 2020 Vision process to address
long-range topics that are likely to become future municipal policy issues.
One summer meeting
is scheduled: Friday, July 11 at 7:45 am in Room G-15 of the
Town Office Building.
