items
Julie Fenn and Becky Kosterman will facilitate the first Outreach/Prevention TF meeting
on January 16th Right now it looks like representatives from No Place For Hate, Center
for Parents and Youth, Lexington PTA, and Parenting Resources will participate Our
goal is to create a more cohesive and collaborative process to youth and family
programming, activities, and education.
School-based consultation begins January 18th on the topic of Aperger's Disorder A
neuropsychologist from the Children's Evaluation Center will present to middle and high
school guidance staff. Kate suggested finding a way to be more inclusive to community
i.e including recreation and other groups who services youth.
Our middle school half-day initiative filled up very quickly The sub-committee has
decided to run the Nashoba Valley snow tubing again on March 8th for those kids on the
wait-list The sub-committee will also plan a trip to Kimball's Farm in May 2007
Kate spoke about the Wellness Advisory Committee (WAC) at Lexington High School.
As stress is the conversation and buzzword around the school, a committee has formed to
look at the issue of stress and what can be done Kate spoke about the weighted vs
unweighted GPA, students really needing the time in-between classes to de-stress, and
how some teachers practice brief"de-stressing" exercises before they begin teaching
class The group also spoke about how this issue needs to be treated as a community
issue
Becky then mentioned that all department heads have made their presentation to the
Board of Selectman. Carl Valente, the Town Manager, has taken and analyzed all the
department's recommendations and will be making his presentation to the Board of
Selectman on Monday January 8, 2007
