Many clinicians have expressed their desire to volunteer The task force has been working with the staff at the Colonial Times to publicize articles They have been running articles in the "Parents and Kids" section. Some of the topics have included, stress & anxiety, drinking and limit setting, stress reduction and breathing. It was suggested that the Youth Services Council and Forum for Youth Network be referenced as the sponsor of the articles and possibly design a logo Becky will talk with the Colonial Time about adding one sentence Middle School Outreach Sub-Committee Update The sub-committee has finalized a middle school tubing trip on January 11, 2007, an early release day It will be limited to the first 40 students to register per school. The cost is $26 00 and this will include tubing and transportation. We will need volunteers to assist in the cafeteria, ride the bus and provide supervision at Nashoba. Helen is searching for chaperones It was suggested to reach out to the peer leaders and high school students Julie and Chantal will look into finding high school students, who are interested in chaperoning and earning community service A spring trip is tentatively scheduled on May 3, 2007 at Kimball's Farm. Chantal believes she can chaperone on this trip Advocacv/Plammng Task Force Bill reported the group has been active advocating for youth services, developing a comprehensive plan for youth services and backing it up with a proposal. The group met in June gathering information, current programming and is preparing presentation for the Board of Selectmen. Becky will contact the group to see if they will attend a council meeting and present their information to the Youth Services Council Applvin for Grant Funding The Drug Prevention program applied for and received a grant from the LEF The Youth Services Council is not an "official" town committee The question was raised if the Youth Service Council qualifies for LEF fundings Members believe that LEF only provides funding for school-based activities The council will continue to talk about the process for applying for grant funds, however, first the group should look at our structure and needs Outreach/Prevention Task Force (Goal) Our outreach/prevention task force exists without membership Becky shared a goal of including a member of the YSC, Lexington Special Education Parent's Group, members of PTA, CPY, and Parenting Resources to collectively address and coordinate a system for parenting workshops and education. The longer-range goal would be to include information in "Parents and Kids" column with a community calendar The group also thought the clergy association, No Place for Hate, and Stand for Children, and HPAC would be useful additions to task force Please think of other organizations that could serve on this group Julie Fenn volunteered to be the liaison from the Youth Services Council. The council agreed. Review the Rubrics handout and bring feedback to the next meeting. Next meeting October 4th,2006 3 00---we need a minute-taker Please e-mail Becky if you plan to be at this meeting and can switch months that you previously signed up for Thanks.
