HomeMy WebLinkAbout2012-06-14 LBAC-min,S US Mop pQ` 1 775 ` �(3 APRIL 11- k /NG'V APPROVED MEETING MINUTES Committee Name: Lexington Bicycle Advisory Committee Date, Time and Location of Meeting: June 14, 2012, 7 pm, Town Office Building Members Present: Stew Kennedy (Acting Chair), John Frey, Marita Hartshorn, Jerry Van Hook, George Gagliardi, Laurel Carpenter, Richard Canale, (Planning Board Liaison) Others Present: Bob Dangel, Patria Lanfranchi Members Absent: Peggy Enders (Chair), Mike Tabaczynski, Bob Hausslein Minutes: The May 2012 minutes were accepted as corrected. The committee reviewed the draft LBAC input to the Selectmen's Annual Goal Setting and revised it to target our its top recommendations. Richard shared the goals of the Planning Board and Jerry shared those from the Sidewalk Committee. Peggy, Stew, Richard and Jerry attended the Transportation Summit on June 6. The staff from engineering, planning, transportation, and economic development made excellent presentations. These summits will be held 3 times per year. The new LexPress buses will have bike racks and will be unveiled at noon on June 3 at Cary Hall. Patria from the Ride Cafe gave a glowing endorsement of the pilot bike parking space on Mass. Ave. Congratulations to Melisa Tintocalis for helping to expand bike parking opportunities on the south side of Mass. Ave. From all reports it seems to be a great success and will benefit all downtown merchants. If members of our committee have not already done so, they are encouraged to take the MAPC transportation survey. Stew will forward the web address. Russ Brami, from Snowy Owl Maps in Lexington, will begin to work on the development of the new Minuteman Bikeway map, collaborating with Judy Seppala in the town MIS department to improve its design and appearance of the map and brochure. Jeanne Krieger invited us to be a sponsor for Lexington's Readiness to Adapt to Climate Change Forum, an initiative being undertaken by the League of Women ,S US Mop pQ` 1 775 ` �(3 APRIL 11- k /NG'V Voters of Lexington. Although we endorse the concept, we decided not to be an active participant at this time due to limited resources. Peggy and Richard attended a 3 -hour Complete Streets workshop in Watertown presented by Bay State Roads and MassDOT. At this time John Livsey is looking into offering the workshop in Lexington -- in the three- and six -hour forms -- here to provide town staff and citizens an opportunity to understand the concept of complete streets. Jerry Van Hook agreed to write a paragraph for the Lexington Minuteman to answer a question about which side of the bike path walkers should be on and why. Stew will help edit the response; it will be submitted on behalf of both the Sidewalk Committee and LBAC. The meeting was adjourned at 8:08 pm. Record of the Discussion of the Friends of Lexington Bikeways: The treasurer reported an expense of $100 toward the 100 $2 coupons given at the Farmers' Market (the Farmers' Market contributes the other $100). A report of the two rides on May 19 was sent to the Town Manager and the Board of Selectmen. These rides were led by Laurel and Stew. This year we collected about 90 bikes for Bikes Not Bombs. Although the collection is decreasing each year, Marita felt it important to sponsor Bike Donation Day on a regular basis so citizens can count on it. The Ride Cafe is providing maintenance support for the MassBike Ride on July 28 The next bike corral at the Farmers Market is July 10. Laurel offered to work from 5:00 to 6:00 that afternoon.
