Town of Lexington Historic Districts Commission Joseph Welch, Chairman Tel: (781) 862-0500 x294 Daniel Griffin Jr. Fax: (781) 861-2780 Scott Kyle Paul Ross Robert Warshawer Minutes of June 7, 2012, in Selectmen Meeting Room of Town Hall at 7:00 Commissioners present: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Daniel Griffin, Paul Ross, Robert Warshawer and Scott Kyle Associate Commissioners present: Carl Oldenburg, Marilyn Fenollosa and Lynn Hopkins Department Clerk: Amy Casparius Absent Associate Commissioner: Barbara Feldman FORMAL HEARINGS 977 Massachusetts Avenue : Bob Scribner, G.F Sprague and Company, presented a letter stating the scope of the project, photographs of the house showing where the bay windows and portico are, a drawing of the portico and bay window with number of squares. The Commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness to change the tin roofing material over the bay windows and portico to copper. Certificate No. 2012C-30. Chairman Joseph Welch recused himself because he is an abutter. Voting Commissioners were: Acting Chairman, Paul Ross, Daniel Griffin, Robert Warshawer and Scott Kyle and Associate Commissioner: Carl Oldenburg 4 Vine Brook Road: Robert Pride, presented photographs of the house showing where the vents will be placed, and two cut sheets from the manufacture showing the particular venting. State code requires a yellow safety card be placed above the vents. The Commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness for two vents to be installed on the right side of the building. Certificate No. 2012C-31 Voting Commissioners were: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Daniel Griffin, Paul Ross, Robert Warshawer and Scott Kyle 1436 Massachusetts Avenue : Lisa O’Brien, presented a plot plan showing where the shed will be placed and a petition from neighbors in support of the shed. This is a white shed, previously located at 1454 Massachusetts Avenue. The Commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness for placing the shed from 1454 Massachusetts Avenue to 1436 Massachusetts Avenue. Certificate No. 2012C-32 Voting Commissioners were: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Daniel Griffin, Paul Ross, Robert Warshawer and Scott Kyle 1666 Massachusetts Avenue : Sharon Spaulding, Spaulding Management LLC, presented a sheet with the specifications of the planters and a sheet showing the proposed lighting fixtures for the front building entrance. The commission had a concern that two wall mounted lanterns directly underneath the 1666 would not look right and suggested the applicant look into a pendant light. The commission wants to see an elevation showing what the lighting will look like. The commission liked the simple look of the proposed planters, but wants to see something in the planters all year long. The exact placement of the planters weather they would be centered between the bollards or to the left or right was also in question. This hearing is continued to give the applicant time to gather all the requested information. 1 Oakland Street : Janet M. Tiampo, presented a plot plan showing where the fence is going to be, photographs of the existing fence, a letter of support from a neighbor, and a drawing of the fence posts. A shorter version of this fence was approved however; the 8-foot fence was installed. The municipal parking lot abuts this property and the commission has no issue with the height of the fence. The Commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness for an 8-foot fence to the rear of the property.
