PLANNING BOARD MINUTES
MEETING OF June 4, 2012

A meeting of the Lexington Planning Board in the Selectmen’s Meeting Room, Town Office Building
was called to order at 8:15 p.m. by Chairman Richard Canale with members Michelle Ciccolo and
Charles Hornig, and planning staff David Kucharsky and Maryann McCall-Taylor present. This was a
joint meeting with the Board of Selectmen who were in public session. Selectmen Hank Manz, George
Burnell, Norman Cohen, Peter Kelly and Deb Mauger were present, as were Executive Clerk Lynne Pease
and Town Manager Carl Valente.

***************************HARTWELL AVENUE TMOD PLAN**************************

David Kucharsk y from the Planning Department presented the conceptual infrastructure plan as had been
requested by the Board of Selectmen the last time the two boards met to discuss Hartwell Avenue. The
plan shows the use of roundabouts at various intersections and the provision of sidewalks and bicycle
accommodations.

The Board of Selectmen had questions about the public process as well as particular aspects of the plan.
Mr. Canale explained that the plans are on the conceptual level and when the 25 % design is done there
will be alternate designs, but at this point a plan is needed to go forward with funding. Both MassDOT,
which has conducted a safety audit for the area, and CTPS, which has done a corridor study, felt the
general approach was a sound one.

Concerns about the effect on the residents of Winter, Wood and Eldred Streets were expressed. Mr.
Canale stated that the vetting of the project was long and arduous and the plan presented will be safer for
those residents. Mr. Kelley said that whatever moves forward will need a more complete review by the
Board of Selectmen and he felt that the Selectmen needed to take a vote on the issue.

On a motion duly made and seconded, it was voted to adjourn the meeting at 8:55 p.m. The Board of
Selectmen continued their meeting.

The meeting was recorded by Lexmedia.
