Fund for Lexington
Meeting Minutes
Thursday, February 19, 2004
Present: Michael Novack, Dan Lucas, Alan Fields, Jeanne Krieger, Lauren MacNeil, and
Dawn McKenna
Next Meeting: Tuesday, March 9, 2004, 5:00 PM
How to put the Fund to Lexington at work helping people in the community?
We have $34K available and collected $28K from the most recent solicitation. We are
not disbursing funds into the community, as we should be.
Human Services model: Michael is able to distribute up to $500 `on the spot' to
individuals in need. From February 2003 to December 2003 the Human Services Fund
distributed $2,059, down from prior years when as muck as $5K per year was distributed.
Michael has developed a brochure to raise awareness of the program.
Recommended Actions, to be formally considered at the next meeting:
1. Fund for Lexington supplement the Human Services Fund to ensure $5,000 is
distributed annually
2. Authorize Michael to disburse up to $1000 from the Fund for Lexington. Periodic
reporting of the distributions would be expected.
3. For amounts greater than $1000, Michael will continue presenting cases to the
Fund for Lexington Board. Approval of expenditures may be made via phone or
email in emergency situations.
4. Michael to draft a public relations program for the Fund for Lexington. Among
the suggested vehicles for promoting the Fund are:
• A brochure similar to the Human Services Fund or combining the services of
the Fund for Lexington and the Human Services Fund into one brochure
• Distribution of the brochure(s) at Stop &Shop, local banks
• Ask town employees working in the community to help identify clients e.g.
police, DPW
