MINUTES <br />FUND FOR LEXINGTON BOARD <br />September 21, 2010 <br />4:30 p.m., Selectmen's Office <br />Present: Norman Cohen, George Burnell, Father Colletti, Alan Wrigley, Charlotte Rodgers, <br />Director of Human Services and Emily Lavine, Assistant Director for Family Services, Human <br />Services department. <br />1. Approximate amount of money available as of 8/31/10: Income $34,300.00 <br />Principal $76,521.00 <br />2. Human Services: <br />a. Emily Lavine gave the Human Services report. The Human Services Emergency <br />Checking Account has sufficient funds at this time to meet current demands. If the <br />Account needs to be replenished, a request will be made for additional funding from <br />the Fund for Lexington. <br />b. Ratified Poll Vote — Dental Bills — $1,000.00 — Approved 4 -0 <br />c. Ratified Poll Vote — Rent - $100.00 — Approved 4 -0 <br />d. Charlotte Rodgers discussed the use of Stop and Shop gift cards for needy individuals <br />and families who are seen by the Human Services Department. These cards are vey <br />much appreciated. It was suggested that Market Basket and Shaw's cards might also <br />be appropriate. Father Colletti once again said he would supply some Stop & Shop <br />cards. Upon a motion duly made and seconded, it was voted 4 -0 to provide $500 <br />from the Fund for Lexington in order to purchase additional grocery cards. <br />e. Upon a motion duly made and seconded, it was voted 4 -0 to authorize the expenditure <br />of up to $3,500 from the Fund for Lexington for TJX holiday gift cards in conjunction <br />with a similar gift from the Rotary Club. The Human Services Department will let <br />the Fund know the exact amount needed when it is determined how many individuals <br />and families are eligible to receive the holiday cards. <br />f. The Board discussed the question of whether it is appropriate to authorize funds to be <br />given to otherwise qualified families who are moving out of town. There are many <br />pros and cons relating to this complex issue. A potential case was discussed. The <br />Board will have to make a determination on an ad hoc basis whenever a specific <br />request is made. <br />3. Other Issues: <br />a. Upon a motion duly made and seconded, it was voted 4 -0 to give $225 (the funds that <br />were donated in honor of Elaine Dratch) to Lexpress to use in providing Lexpress <br />passes to needy families. <br />4. Next Meeting — December 7, 2010 at 4:3 0 p.m. <br />5. Approved the June 15, 2010 minutes — Approved 4 -0, with the amendment to 2.a. <br />changing the words "Human Services Fund" to "Human Services Emergency Checking <br />Account." <br />
